In an amazing physical and mental feat, a 64-year old woman swam from Florida to Cuba-without a shark cage! http://news.yahoo.com/nyad-1st-swim-florida-cuba-without-cage-180026706.html She swam for 53 hours!

I can't imagine the training she had to have done in order to even think of doing such a thing.

It's awesome. I've been a fan of Diana Nyad for decades.  What i've loved is that she's tried and tried different stunts and failed but she never stopped trying. She gave an "inspirational" speech to my first company when I started about how she put everything she had in her failures so they weren't failures in her book.

For the past week I have been checking out the news every few hours each day to find out how she was doing. When I saw she only had 10 miles left I was a nervous wreck for her. I am so glad she made it.

I think it is absolutely amazing she stuck with her dream all these years and in the process has managed to motivate so many others by her sheer determination.

I can't imagine having the fortitude to do that at 64.  No more saying we're too old to do anything anymore!

LOL Jean, I was thinking that same thing. I am heading toward the big 50 and often will blame my age for my inability to catch on to new things quickly. I think it is more an excuse I like to use not to give it my all rather than a real problem. ;-)

Absolutely incredible! I can't even phantom that feat, let alone the risk of a shark attack(and any other predators!). She is an inspiration to persistence and drive!

She is really pretty impressive ,in fact in my ability of swim right now ,i honestly can't do that.I am 30 years old and i can say i am fit ,i am originally from Finland and i start loosing weight when i feel getting bigger and one of the first thing i do is to go in gym or kuntokeskus and get personal trainer where he teach me proper discipline and working out pretty good that i use to do it before.

I don't think there are many people who could do that right now, at any age!  Good job on starting a workout routine. I think getting a trainer is a great way to start (although I am biased, as a trainer....).  Feel free to join us below in the journal if you want. It's a great way to get motivated and see what others do to stay fit.
