I think it's easy for us to get down on ourselves if we don't feel like we're working hard enough/eating well but we should take a few minutes to appreciate what we can do.  I naturally assume our fitness level here is average and am surprised that, say, doing 10 crunches should be a piece of cake but it's really not!  The more I do, outside the gym, the more I appreciate it.

So, let's hear it for things we've been able to do recently that would impress the non-gym rat...

I'll start w/ what made me think about this. Our warm up at parkour (my favorite part of parkour because, as I told the instructor, I love doing burpess because it's the only part of the class where I feel success) was two times through of: 15 burpees w/ tricep push ups and then high jumps hands on the vault; 10 jumps onto the wall and back down; 20 precision jumps (high jumps, knees up, land as lightly as possible, repeat) and spiderman walks across the floor. It was easy but it occurred to me later that it would be really challenging if you didn't work out.  Of course,I can't imagine anyone wanting to try parkout if they weren't somewhat fit.  But then again, there are people who have never moved off the couch and decide they want to learn to ski so who knows?

I saw a woman do a headstand the other day at the gym. It was obviously a show-offy thing because she positioned herself, in this HUGE gym w/ lots of space, right in front of the large windows by both aerobics studios while they were going on.  Anyway, it made me wonder if I could do it so I tried (in the privacy of my own home). It wasn't hard but it was challenging on the neck. There is no form or grace in what I did, though.  

You're amazing that you can do yoga and pilates and keep at it. I try a class here and there and give up.

Jean, I am tired just reading your warmup.  :O. I am intimidated by your ab/gilityb!!!

ok, yoga binds, headstand, and depth of my lunges/poses are things I can now do that I used to literally laugh out loud about when I saw others do...when I first started yoga.  The headstand is really not that hard, as it is more about balance acon diffidence IMHO.

in reading the posts, I feel slightly depressed that my injuries prevent me from so many things.  Aaaahhhh, well, I choose not tremoved a rib removed for my thoracic outlet syndrome.  :(. Life is good ...I see some people unable to walk, and know I am one of the lucky ones.  We all must be flexiblopens open to new and change!  :)

Hahaha, my normal speed is slow so it takes a lot of mental push to go faster. But, if it's short, I can fool myself to do it.  It amazes me when people run fast for a marathon or whatever distance.

Oooh, love the idea. I'm going to try that.  I tell myself I can do anything for xxx seconds. But, it's so hard when you do so many of them!

Love this.  It's about what it adds to your every day life, overall.  Your workouts would exhaust me. I'd love to be able to swim for an hour!

I can't find a video but am still looking. Let me try to describe it better.

1) do the first part of the burpee w/ the push up but stay in a plank position.  Have a chair or bench to the right of the feet.  

2) stay in the plank position and walk your feet onto the chair. Do a push up.

3)Then do the spideman plank. It's like this video,only feet on the bench/chair.  Don't do the rotational one (although it would be an awesome addition).  Six times so three times per leg.

4) keeping in the plank, walk your feet down to the other side of the bench/chair and then jump your feet back to your hands (the last part of the burpee).

5) do the same thing to the other side.

The jump back for the last part of the burpee is the hardest part, believe it or not!

I find anything to do with speed very difficult. I don't know if I am just lazy and don't want to move fast or what, but the thought of doing sprinting intervals sounds so exhausting.

Yay for this post! I don't really have much in the way to share as my workouts have been mundane lately but I did do an interval workout on Sunday - 8 second sprint, 12 second rest for 20 minutes. That ain't bad. ;)

An hour of swimming is amazing! That is what I consider really fit.

I appreciate my fitness level, but your parkour warmup would finish me... I Love that I can walk for hours. I love that even though my suitcase was stupid heavy, I could manage it. I love that I can swim for an hour and not even be really tired. I love that my default way of eating is basically healthy. I love that I have a lot of energy most of the time.
