One I've been having my class do, which I like is an open book, side plank, only w/ variations.

Stand on one side of the mat, with one hand weight on the other end.

I love the superman, banana, too. Along these ideas, only I do a full crunch, holding the knees as part of the abs, instead of just holding:

That first one looks really hard! It's one thing to do opposite arm, opposite leg which I do but I've never tried it same arm and leg. The hardest thing for me is keeping the hips level to the ground.

When doing plank, I have to do mostly modified planks because of my hand and wrist (CTS)

I think the picture is opposite arm opposite leg, and, no, we didn't do same arm same leg.

I teach my clients the ball balance sometimes. I think it's easier to work on if you roll out on the ball, tuck your knees in and then slowly bring your upper body up (or you can have someone else help you).
