Introduction and hello! :)

Hi! I'm Angelle and I'm 'new' here. I used to use iVillage boards back around 2007, so technically I'm not 'new', I'm 'old but has been away', LOL.

I'm 41, I live in Michigan, and I'm 50 lb overweight. I used to be much more active, but I've really let things go in the past 5 years or so. My former favorite forms of exercise were Tae Bo, aerobics (primarily Jane Fonda/Richard Simmons), yoga, pilates, and walking. I learned how to rollerskate 2 years ago by joining a roller derby league (quit laughing, please!), but I got busted my piriformis muscle and had to quit, and wasn't able to skate for months, and that's when things really declined as far as exercising. I still have some problems with flexibility in the muscles on that hip/leg, and balance issues, but if I work at it I know those will improve. I also have a spinal fusion at L5/S1 from a surgery 20 years ago. I am cleared to exercise and theoretically can still do anything I ever used to do before surgery - just not supposed to carry over 15 lb. Because I'm 50 lb. overweight, my back aches a bit from trying to haul all of me around, also. :p

I used to do the South Beach eating plan, and felt great on it, and had good sucess. I'm not sure if I want to go that route again - I'm pretty anti-diet in general - but I would like to incorporate a lot of the healthier types of meals that I used to prepare from SBD. I think it will help. That and cutting out the Christmas cookies! ;)

Right now my goal is to lose the 50 lb., feel better and stronger, and eliminate the back pain and leg/hip muscle/tendon pain.

My partner is also looking to get more fit, so I do have support at home, as well.

Hopefully this board will be a good source of inspiration and support! Looking forward to meeting all of you.

Amazing,

I'm not much of a runner but we do have some runners on board here. 3 miles is about the limit for me when it comes to jogging but I do walk several miles daily. Thankfully I am maintaining a good weight right now though I do struggle with an out of proportion waistline. I've been struggling with an elbow injury  so I keep trying to tell myself that this is just an added opportunity to work my core more. lol it sounds good-now to make it happen. ;-)

Sounds like a great plan.  As the running goes, take it nice and easy to start, even if you've run before.  Make sure you're able to walk 30 minutes at a good pace to begin with and then hop into a walk/run beginning program.  I love the couch potato to a 5k program in 8 weeks. Even though I'd be working out for years, I used that program to get started.  It can be frustratingly slow but it works to get people running, safely.

Hope you all start feeling better soon!

Welcome, grace!  I've been looking at obstacle races like the Tough Mudder. They look like a lot of fun.  Feel free to join us in other threads, too. I look forward to reading about your training/race!

Welcome to the newbies!  Keep coming to ths board for the daily journals, a couple topics down, and feel free to post your goals fit exercise and healthy eating each day.  This board has some exceptionally motivating and inspiring people on this board.  i am so thankful for them!!!

i find the daily journals have kept me more "honest" with myself (on the eating) and writing down my plans make me stick to my fitness goals.  We welcome your stories and camaradarie.  :D

I am so jealous about your rollerskating!

It's hard to get re-started, but take it slow and then build back up. Don't be discouraged that you aren't up to where you were. You will be. Don't worry about the weight. Once you get into a good routine again with a healthy eating pattern, those extra pounds will slip off before you know it.

Welcome!

Are you tired of going office daily? Earn 50$ per hour working from home with Google! I've made $64,000 so far this year working online and I'm a full time student. Im using an online business opportunity I heard about and I've made such great money. It's really user friendly and I'm just so happy that I found out about it.
