Is money a motivation factor to lose weight?

If you were going to get paid to lose weight would it motivate you? And what would happen once you stopped getting paid to lose? Would you be able to maintain? I saw this TODAY SHOW article on financial incentives to lose weight and got to thinking about it. Isn't good or better health something of a financial incentive (or at least an investment)?

I know I've heard people say that health insurance premiums should be somewhat weight based. Wouldn't that be a financial incentive or does only cold hard cash work?

Just curious.

I've been reading more about this lately.  I think it's incentive to lose weight but not enough to keep it off and that's a worst cycle to get into. My sister's health plan pays them when they take steps to being healthy, eg when they see their personal trainer, see the dietician, come back for future measurements. I'd love to see how well it works.  It seems like giving steps and incentives for being healthy might be more do-able.  But, it's harder to measure.
