Outrageously priced workout clothes and what you pay

My daughter goes to a studio where the girls are incredibly wealthy. Lululemon is the dancers choice and most girls have tons of outfits. I thought it was a lot to spend on clothes for that age but I indulge my daughter.  So, I found this site w/ super cute clothes.  But, I can't get over the prices!

Would you ever spend that for clothes? I'm thinking those cost more than my ski clothes!

Yep, I think most of what I've bought is Danskin.  It's inexpensive and seems to last.  Although, for $12 and how much abuse they've endured, I'd feel okay if it fell apart too.

Also Karla, for your daughter, check out the Champion Action Shape bras.  Those are great bras for the well endowed and they are not as heavy duty as the Enell.  I've got some that are probably 7 or 8 years old...

Karla, small bra size or what, you definitely look like a woman!  I was shocked at the bra fitting and when the woman told me,I was sure she was wrong.

Our families are so alike.  My daughter loves shopping, my husband buys whatever he wants and never considers price. I'm so frugal sometimes!  I have no need for a designer purse, though my husband has given me a couple.  I can't see replacing them every year, either!

Oh, another question--my husband doesn't like fashion, can't dress himself and acknowledges it. So, every occasion, he somehow decides that he's going to buy ME clothes or jewerly, purse, etc. and he spends a lot of money on them. Seriously, he has no tashion sense; he knows he can't dress himself so I'm wondering why he thinks he knows enough to dress me???  I have had him take things back but have kept some things just because I feel bad. Should I just tell him?  This isn't cheap costume jewelry but probably costs hundreds of dollars into low thousand.  Designer handbags.  I tried to make it easy one year by picking a few out and telilng him what I want. But, he decided to free style it and buy something that I would never pick out.  I use it but it doesn't close, has a huge magnet that catches everything, including cars, and no pockets.  He tries hard but I get upset when I look around at all the gifts he's given me over the years that I've never used. All that money!

LOL I have to laugh because I have to be very careful to make sure my sports bras have padding so people can tell I am a woman.

I am going to check out some of those more expensive bras for my daughter who is a 34DD. She usually wears two sports bras when doing anything that involves jogging or jumping. If we can find her something that works then I don't mind paying a little more for them.

Gym-do you wear those Danskin workout clothes from Walmart? I just bought a couple of their t-shirts but haven't tried their capris yet. I was thinking about trying them.

Ha!  That is my aunt's name.  lol.  No, I am too frugal to pay those prices...although my daughter tells me I need to buy something Prada...she also tells me I need to buy a not-at-TJ-Maxx-last season-Michael Kors purse.  :O  I LOVE TJ Maxx since I don't have to pay full price.  I also like NWT Ebay deals, atlhough you must know your exact sizes, as I have also wasted money on things that don't fit or fabrics that don't look the same in picture vs. in person.  My husband, otoh, pays full price for exactly what he wants.  :(  I call him a snob, and it took three purchases before he finally succumbed to my Consumer Reports recommendations.  Now, he admits that "I was right" and that high price does not always equate to quality.  :D

The problem w/ those heavy duty bras is that they're heavy duty and I've always worn cute little bras because they peek out below my tops. Those heavy duty bras are ugly, like my orthotic comfortable shoes.

No way, Jose!  I live in my workout clothes and I buy 'em super cheap.  Most of my capri pants come from Walmart.  I've had some in there for three or four years and they cost about $12.  I buy the men's "wife beaters".  They're inexpensive and long so I don't have to worry so much about butt cleavage.

What I do spend a lot on are shoes and bras.  Jean, a really good bra for generous boobies is Enell.  It is built like armour but I guarantee, those puppies will not move.  I wear a 38 DDD and have long joked that I need to hire vertically challenged men to hold them up for me.  This bra just about does that.  Cool

Since it's my job and I'm in the corporate environment, I feel like I need to dress up some, but not like that!  I get good discounts at Athleta, Lucy, decent Lululemon so will buy their clothes but I wear them all the time.  Sadly, probably more than my regular day to day clothes.  It is worth the price when you repeatedly wash/wear them.  And, I've become really picky w/ silks because I don't want anything see through!  But, my clothes are a mix of nice and then whatever I pick up from Marshalls, Target, etc. I'm pickiest about the tights and jackets.  I need to get better sports bras but at my size (32DD which shocked me when I went in for a fitting because I thought I was a 34/36A), they're built like armor and hard to find. I love cute little bras.

She just quit the company but is still dancing. The ballet class is strict but the other classes aren't. She doesn't take hip hop but I've heard the new trend is wearing combat boots. That just doesn't seem good for their legs!

I have used discount dance for basic dance clothes for her and shoes but their return policy is crazy. They charge you $6 to return/exchange any item.  I ordered a pair of shoes once and they said to order 2-3 sizes smaller than your normal shoe size in that type of shoe.  I ordered one size smaller, it was too small and was charged for an exchange even though it was their fault. I'll order clothes that I know will fit but nothing else.

A good sports bra is worth the price, especially at that size!

The thing w/ dance is that it is an appearance oriented activity so they are more into the style than what's minimally needed. I don't mind paying for style but that site is outrageous.  OTOH, it also bothers me when they buy things just for the name.
