Ugg. I smashed my finger Friday morning  with 15 lb dumbell and I wasn't even weight lifting! I was doing some cleaning and I picked it up in my right hand and had other things in my hand so I accidently dropped it. I instinctively reached out and tried to grab it with my left hand and wasn't able to grab it fast enough and it smashed down on my finger tip. Now my nail is black and I have pins and needles when touching anything. I guess it could be broken but since there isn't really anything that can be done for it, I am just trying to protect it and not bump it on anything. I will probably lose the nail for sure.

It's crazy how much an injured finger tip can interfere with life!

Ow! I can't imagine how much that must have (and still does) hurt.  It might be worth having it checked out anyway. My friend broke her finger and thought the same thing.  She ended up w/ scar tissue build up and had no mobility in the finger.  It was in an odd angle so it would catch on things. She had to have surgery to remove the scar tissue and then went to pt to make sure it didn't develop the same way. It's stil not the same, though. So, keeping on top of it might be a good idea.  It is funny how something so small like a finger or toe can make such a big difference, just ask fsn about her toe!

Oh, that is a bummer.  I'm so sorry.  I encourage you to see a doc to get it checked out AND make up a cool story about how it happened.  Wink

lol Gym. I am probably going to have to break down and get it checked out. Trying to type with my finger in this condition is not working out great.

I once broke another finger at TKD and I thought the doc was going to laugh his head off. He thought I had been fighting or trying to break boards. Nope. I was shaking some guys hand AFTER fighting and got my finger caught in his sleeve. He turned and my finger when the opposite direction. lol

Ouch! I agree with jeans and gym rats, you should get it checked out just to be safe. I have a cold hamstring, and I thought it was nothing, and so now, after nursing it for six months, the physical therapist thinks I have start tissue. I can't seem to "shake "it."Aging is not for wimps, "as my mother says.

Have you thought of getting scar tissue massage?  It's a good thing to try early on but I've been told it's painful.
