Another freezing day on Wednesday
12
Wed, 12-11-2013 - 8:17am

I'm going to get ready to shovel snow again this morning. We got a light dusting and it is supposed to get colder tonight so I don't want it to turn to ice. I hired a new lawyer yesterday, since my last lawyer will return any of my communications. It turns out that the last two lawyers I had screwed up a bunch of stuff, for which there maybe no recourse since too much time has lapsed. Hopefully, this lawyer can get some things done efficiently so that I can minimize my losses. I have a meeting with my therapist today, I also have a crown which may turn into a root canal, and I'm supposed to go line dancing tonight. We will see how I feel after the crown/root canal. It seems that my stepson is starting to learn the boundaries. I gave him tonight as an evening that his band can practice. It turns out that they are not coming over tonight. At dinner last night, He told "his dad that his band is going to record an album which will cost a couple thousand dollars.  DH's Response was, "well, good luck with that."Really?! He expects his parents to pay for that, when he still hasn't raised the $800 to pay for his car? DH Already gave him money for a photo shoot for his band and DH didn't tell me about that expense so he doesn't know that I am aware of that expense already. Wow!  Talk about a sense of entitlement!   Blah blah blah, the perils of a blended family.  I keep on telling myself that, "it's only money. "At this point, our investments are all separate. I think I'm going to keep it that way.

do you have some cheese to go with my whine?!  ;). Make it great day, everyone!

Whew! Sounds like the timing of your therapist meeting is well planned.  We lost power in the ice storm this past weekend. We got it back yesterday but I feel like I'm playing catch up now. I'm doing a CPR cert class today.I'm really liking this American Heart Association option where you watch the video on your own time and then go get a practical on hands cert to finish.  I don't want to sit in a class w/ a lot of newbies.  My daughter's friend's family spent the night in our basement last night because they were still out of power. Just to have a place to charge your phone and take a hot shower feels so good after going w/out!

So, no workout but I am teaching dancers conditioning today. And, I'm getting ready for my weeklong instructor training at Killington. So excited!

Does your ss have a job? Maybe he would appreciate the value of money more if he had a part time job somewhere.

I didn't have to shovel this morning but they are calling for yet another snow storm for this weekend. I HATE winter!

I have broke down and scheduled an appointment to have my foot looked at. I felt like it was doing better until last night. I had been out shoveling yesterday morning and had my snow boots on and everything felt fine. I then went to work and wore my snow boots and by the time I got home I had shooting pains up my leg all the way to my calf. I am going to see a podiatrist in the morning and I am hoping that they tell me it is nothing more than a bad sprain/pull that I am going to have to baby a little more.

I can't believe Christmas is just two weeks from today. It doesn't feel like the holiday season. I think because we never have this kind of weather until way after Christmas in normal years.

I am getting my hair trimmed and colored today and I am going to try to avoid the gym. I just can't believe I have yet another nagging injury. On the other hand, my elbow is doing great right now. I wonder if Insanity has anything to do with my injuries. I haven't been in a few weeks....

Jean, I felt so sorry for you when I saw you didn't have power. Did you have any way of getting heat?

FSN, good luck with your therapy appointment today and I'm sorry to hear about your lawyer.  Seems like you've had a lot of issues with lawyers.

Karla, let us know what happens with your foot.  It's good that you're getting it looked at.  My client sent me a article recently about the number of injuries relating to Crossfit.  I know Insanity is supposed to be pretty intense so I wonder if there's a correlation there.

Jean , enjoy your training.

Happy, how in the world do you track how many laps you've swum?

I'm training this afternoon.  No workout today.  Doing more writing proposals.

Let us know what the doctor says about your foot!  Insanity doesn't seem so crazy (haha) to me but it is impact and maybe you just did too much too soon.  I might have asked this before but do you heel strike when you run and do high impact moves? That can make a big difference.

Yes, we had no heat when our power went out. That and the lack of shower were the worst of it. We don't have gas to our house but I keep thinking we should. Everything we have is electric, though, and I've heard the new gas stoves require electric to start.  I can complain but it's a minor inconvenience and we even considered checking into a hotel. Such overprivileged wimps.

No, ss does not have a job.  We are paying him to caulk and paint a few rooms in the house.  It's now been 5 weeks, and it's still not done.  I see dh sneaking into the rooms and doing some work.  <sigh.>  I keep realizing that he is only hurting his son.  I am much harder on dd with so many things, and although I somehow feel like it is not "fair," I also realize that my daughter will be better off in the longrun, so I, then, "let go."  I love my therapist so far.  He has practical advice, and doesn't "let me" drone on and on, which so many other therapists have encouraged.  After a certain point, I think that talking about negative things that one has no control over is counterproductive.  I am so thankful that my crown did NOT turn into a root canal.  YEA!  The dentist mentioned that I looked rather pale when I walked out, and that was my anxiety over wondering if she could get me numb.

Jean, no heat?!  I this weather?!  You are NOT a wimp for even thinking of going to a hotel.  It's FREEZING!

I talked to a physician today who went to a holistic conference that was backed with cllinical data/proof.  Stress has a significant impact on several disease states.  Stress (including depression) increases several hormones that cause inflammation and, in turn, reduces your autoimmune response.  There is clinically proven benefit just to taking four long deep breaths.  Walnuts seem to be the best nut for reducing inflammation and having antioxidant effects.  The medical community is embracing the damaging effects of GMO, and I think farm raised fish that do not eat corn (I think that is salmon, trout and sea bass) are the safer fish?  Meditation, yoga, and other stress reducing activities are encouraged.  When nothing else can be determined, the moderators encouraged a "go" at eliminating guten from the diet for 4-5 weeks, as gluten can cause significant infllammation, and although many do not have celiac disease, even a gluten intolerance can have severely damaging effects. Another study showed that just ONE steak dinner slows blood flow which could explain so many heart attack since slowed blood flow can increase the risk of clots/occlusions.  It was nice to hear confirmation of many of the lifestyle change I have put in place.  Oh!  And fish oil with a certain ratio of omega 3 AND omega 6 is essential.  The 6 is essential and most manufacturers do not list this on their fish oil pills.   I love learning new information!

No dancing tonight.  My jaw and tooth area are KILLING me, so I am laying low tonight.

Jean, welcome back to the 21st century...I am so grateful to live in the time of electricity and indoor plumbing....Gymrat, I count the laps in my head...I find it meditative. I count steps when I run too. For me, 100 steps, counted when my left foot hits the ground, is a tenth of a mile. It varies slightly by the treadmill speed, but not much. And there are 400 uphill steps from the bottom of my street to my house. If something is taking longer than I think it should, I count to 100 before I get annoyed...and usually whatever it is happens before I get there. I count windows, lines in the road if I am a passenger in a car....on the subway though, I read the words in the advertisements backwards to 'hear' what they sound like....and oddly, my brother does the 'read backward' thing too...I don't know if he counts. Sometimes I realize I am counting and I make myself stop and think about something, but working out, I give in. Weird...but me. FSN, I think keeping finances separate in a blended. Family is smart. Karla, I hope you get good answers on your foot. No gym tonight, but I did a cardio and an abvideo from Fitness tv. They were both good, but my intensity left a lot to be desired...but better than nothing and counted towards my goal.

Have you tried the Perricone diet I mentioned doing? It's an anti-inflammatory diet. One thing to keep in mind, as you know being in that field, is that studies can be pretty meaningless unless it's peer reviewed and from the original source. I don't even bother considering others unless I see the original study.  As the steak goes, I've also read that grass fed has different effects but this again, is an unsubstantiated study.  I was really annoyed at a fitness conference when they posted that drinking one diet soda a week raises your risk of diabetes by 30%. The media person had apparently heard it on a morning talk show. Ugh. So much bad info out there. I'm not a proponent of soda but can't believe that a healthy person who adds one diet soda a week will increase their risk like that.

That's funny. I'm a counter, too, although not backward words.  When I do something repetitive, I find myself counting in my head. But, I can't count laps because I forget if the one I'm on is the one I'm counting or if I'm counting ahead for the one that's coming up.  It's okay for lower numbers but I could never do 100!
