back to reality on Monday

or perhaps my vacation was the "reality?"  Aaaaahhhh, Miami was wonderful!  I would love to buy a piece of real estate with an oceanfront view.  It is SO calming!  :D

Although I took today off as a vacation day, I have SO MUCH WORK to do before I leave for my week long sales meeting on Sunday.  I will be working for most of the day today, memorizing product data for the tests that I start taking tomorrow morning!  Eegads.

We kept on running into Justin Bieber while we were in Miami.  With the paparazzi surrounding him/us, I had to ask the passersby, "Who IS that?!"  Hah!  We were walking down the street, within 6 feet of him (and his body guard and friends), and we saw photographers running ahead, turning around, and taking pictures.  DH was really critical of the "kid," but, hey, if you have all of that money, surrounded by "yes men," what would any of us be like as a teenager?!  It's like Lord of the Rings in the current century.  Ahem.  Anywyas, there are tons of great restaurants, such a melting pot of Latinas, Europeans, and Americans, and warm weather!

Before studying for my tests today, I am going to do half a spin class followed by yoga.  I have got to get my fitness groove back, and lose my pooch.  So much to do and so little time...isn't that always "the way" after a vacation?!

That sounds awesome.  I do have something planned--I've invited some friends from the ski group to go to Family Meal, a restaurant owned by Bryan Voltaggio. I've wanted to go since it's opened. But, that's low key. I have a friend who is in the Caribbean w/ other friends, all turning 50 this year. That's what I was thinking about!  Something like that.

Thanks Jean. When I turned 50, I was planning to throw a party for myself and my mother told me my brother was going to host my party. I wanted something big, and he told me I could have whatever I wanted...which was really hard for me to ask for...but I went for it and he hosted my whole extended family for a Celtics game, followed by a night in a hotel in Boston and briunch the next day. My dad flew back from Florida as a surprise...it was so amazingly awesome...I cried buckets, I was so emotional, and me family, especially the children, still talk about it. plan something you will really love!

Happy early birthday, since I won't be around tomorrow!  Mine is a couple of weeks away and it's a big one. I've been thinking I should do something big this year to celebrate but am coming up blank.

I don't care for black beans as beans so I would never think they could be brownies. My brownies are almost famous - I add different stuff each time so they are super rich and yummy. High calorie, but a small piece is satisfying. Now I want some....FSN, tell everyone you went to Miami with Justin Bieber! How funny! Karla, I'd get that 'no shoveling' in writing and renew it every year! Jean, skiing in subzero weather doesn't sound like a way to make kids love skiing. Gymrat, do you write in your head wherever you are, or do you need to be set up to focus? Cath, you are right - one injury makesmoreplaces hurt as you compensate...it was 40 here this morning, but freezing again at the end of the day. I don't think I can do another winter like this one....which is why I am thinking of retirement.....I went to Zumba Saturday and swam 100 Laos yesterday. Today 5 minute bike warmup, lifting for chest/back, abs, ran 2 mile in. 26:58. Tomorrow is my birthday.... We are not a big birthday family so no plans...but I am thinking of not going to the gym and giving myself a rest day as a present!

I didn't like the black bean brownies either.  I added chopped chocolate to them to make them better but it didn't help.  I'l stick w/ my full fat decadent ones!

Justin Bieber just needs to disappear.  It'll be better for him and the world.  There was some guy on the radio who defended him and said he's just 19 and he's not doing anything that we all weren't doing then. Ummmm, really?  Anyway, glad you had a great vacation, Beiber aside.

My confession is that after the weekend of skiing/teaching, I do nothing on Mondays. Like lie on the couch w/ the puppy when she sleeps all day nothing.  I took her for a couple of walks because it wasn't frigid cold but that's it.  I'll be teaching tomorrow and it's going to be single digits w/ a lot of wind.  Hope I don't get hypothermia. Some parents are so hard core that they won't cancel when it's that frigid so I'm hoping I don't get that!

FSN, glad you had a good vacation.  That's kind of funny about Justin Bieber.  He is so obnoxious.  I heard some Miami cops are in hot water for escorting him and his entourage to strip clubs.

Arryl, LOL about the husband.  I have days like that too.

Karla, keep resting girl!

Cath, what happened with your brownies?  I made them once and they were tasty although calling them a "brownie" was a stretch.  They were really cake-y.

I'm a fury of activity today, trying to last these last few projects finished.  I've got about 20 pages left in my book edit and then I'll need to go through the entire thing again.  On top of that, I've got three articles to write.  Unfortunately, I have to go out this afternoon to get allergy shots and pick up kitty's insulin.  I may need to work tonight.  We'll see.  I did strength training this morning and am planning to work, work, work.  I am super stoked for vacation but am stressed about getting everything done.

We had sleet and ice in Texas Friday, so work and school were closed. 30's Friday and then 60's saturday and yesterday! I got to the Y on Saturday to do 45 minutes on the elliptical machine and then did yard work and raked leaves yesterday. I am waiting to hear from DH to see if we are meeting for lunch or if I am doing cross fit. In the mood I am in with him, cross fit is preferable.

Miami with Justin Bieber!  Sounds wild!  Actually, I TOO went  to the podiatrist this morning, Karla!   I had a plantars wart right smack in the middle of my big toe which had to be removed a few weeks ago.  I couldnt believe how much it affected my walking.  I had to lift my toe with every step which put a strain on my upper foot and the tendons that are involved with walking.  It is so great to walk normally again.  Am here at work now after a pretty good weekend.  I didn't do much but got some work done.  Tried black bean brownies last night.  Failed at same.  Pilates, dog walking, that's about it from here.  I would like to do the bike again but I think that my overzealous stationary biking at the gym made my knee worse.   Now i am going back to my stay-at-home exercise mode.  MOney is tight and I really hate going to the gym anyway. Planning a trip to Disney in July, that is fun!   Enjoy the day and stay warm, everyone!

Haha-that is so funny you kept running into Justin Bieber. My daughter will be so jealous!

Did you arrive home to horrid cold? It actually warmed up over the weekend but it is now cold here again. 10 degrees and dropping throughout the day.

I went to the podiatrist this morning and he said I could start slowly running again but I am to build up very very slowly because Achilles injuries are very long lasting and difficult to heal. He also told me NOT to shovel snow as putting on snow boots and shoveling can put a lot of stress on the Achilles. LOL-that is totally fine with me because I did shovel on Saturday and my leg was so sore on Sunday I decided I had better lay low for a while.

I am going to do intervals on the tread today if I get a chance to get to the gym.
