Blame it on the rain Thursday

It's been pouring out!  If it has to rain, I wish there would be thunderstorms but it's just long rain.  I went to aerial silks last night to a class I haven't done in months. The instructor was a riot. He's barely taller than I am, about as wide as he is tall, heavy accent and amazing at silks. I couldn't get over his power and strength.  He taught us this new move and I did my normal brute force to get through. He talked to us about how silks should look effortless and when the audience is watching they want to think it looks easy. He said, "They don't want to see this!" as he grimaced and torqued his arms and body in awkward ways and said, "ow... ow...uhhh."  Yeah, that's about it.  My daughter decided to go to class. She likes the idea of doing silks but not enough to work at it. The problem for her is that she doesn't have the strength, and she doesn't want to work on it to get better. So, she just fooled around w/ the few things she can do and left grumpy.  Grumpier than usual.  Tell me again I'm going to get through the teen girl years.  Hey, is there a support board? We need that at iVillage.  "Surviing the teen girl years."

I'm teaching step this morning and then have an advice client.  I'm going to a CABi party tonight. Has anyone been/gone? It's clothes.  I normally don't like these kind of parties but this friend told me she only had a handful of women say they're coming so I said I'd go.

I am with Gymrat on the teenage daughter thing...I still feel like a teenager...I can't be the grownup. Lat week a child was throwing a fit in the ladies locker room at the gym...we don't have many kids around but a few take swimming lessons. I was sooo happy I am childless...but thn onight I saw a commercial with n adorable child, and I was all 'ooooo'. But my ship has sailed, so I'vs missed the joys of parenthood....I love leggings...I wear them a lot, although not o work, and I love the look. I don't wear boots - I can't find a flat pair with a zipper at a price I am wiling to pay....I look, because thy look so great on other people, but I always end up passing on them. I can't point my foot deep enough to get most pairs on, if that makes any sense. And Gymrat, 'prison on prednisone' cracked me up...it bothers me a lot how many people are incarcerated, and I feel like it is such a MIS allocation of resources...that somehow we don't put money into solving poverty and providing education and preventing ubstance abuse, but we are willing to warehouse people. The thought of being locked up just panics me, and yet I know there are whole sections of society where being in prison is just a way of life. what an incredibly difficult job to do....I went to the gym, lifted for shoulders, bis, tris, ran 2 miles.

I find training a lot like counseling. People who want to change, do. We're just faciltators. If they don't want to change, we're pretty powerless. That's fine and I tell clients they get out what they put in.  But, stop complaiing that you're overweight and out of shape then.

I thought your daughter and by broke up?  Sometimes it's best to be an ostrich.  I'm all for my kids learning and making mistakes. I'm not all for them being grouchy and grumpy. I draw my lines in odd places.  We did handstands in silks, but against the wall. The funny thing is I have no desire to be able to do handstands and yet I find myself doing them for capoeira, silks, parkour.

Is this the sister that was on the prednisone?  Lordy, I cannot imagine working in a prison on prednisone.  I don't think I could escape without doing time myself.  Laughing

Gym, my sister works as a drug addiction counselor in a prison. She is looking for another job because of that very thing-the excuses and complaints. It is always someone else's fault....

Jean, that mentality is why I ultimately decided I couldn't do counseling.  I find it infuriating when people want to continually complain about things but refuse to do anything about them.

Karla, sorry to hear that you're feeling sick.  Sounds like you need a couch day.

FSN, I think you have the right attitude about your dauther.  (And this is another reason why I don't have a child - I am famously bad at "letting go.")  She's going to learn things a lot more poignantly on her own.

We woke up to rain today too, which is kind of nice.  I have an article rewrite that needs doing but that's probably the extent of writing that I'll do today.  I've got 4 articles that are waiting to be picked up by editors and the last two I submitted were really hard to do.  The material itself wasn't hard but sometimes the words have to be wrestled out of my brain.  I'm having lunch with my lawyer (not really - he's a good friend that is a lawyer and has promised to bail me out of jail if it comes to that) at a restaurant that has a salad I've been craving since I was there the last time a couple weeks ago.

I got my article through... the one from the pissy editor.  She left me a bunch of comments that were kind of pissy as well...  I realized that I interpreted something she said differently whereas she saw it as me refusing to do what she asked.  Yay communication!  Tongue Out

Fresh I am so glad leggings are back in. I love leggings but only if it is cold enough that I can wear boots so no one can see that my pants are too short. lol

LOL I only did 2 miles yesterday. I tried the 5 last week and nearly died so I don't think I will ever try that again.

Gross on the snot rocket. I try to make sure no one is around if I have to spit but would never just blow my nose like that.

I may have to break down and take an antihistamine which means I'll be tired all day. Ugg.

...and surviving the teen years continues...my daughter's boyfriend is visiting dd for the weekend.  :(. I don't want to know what is really going on, so I am being a bit of an ostrich.  :O. It's her life, so I have to let her learn the lessons that go with life, but it is just so  hard to "let go," but there really is no alternative!  Karla, ugh on being sick. I have been downing vitamin C and using the netipot daily...which reminds me that I need my flu shot!  Jean, that is awesome about the silksYes my daughter is likes yours with regards to upper body strength.  We did so many handstands last night that my upper body is really achy, too.  Steph, I hopit the e weather has cleared for you and your pooch...Ick on heels in the mud.  SJ, those leggings (without the stirrups) seem to be "back", although I am a bit weary of wearing them.  They sure are comfortable, though.  GR, I love getting new furniture...how lovely!

LOTS of work today, pup training tonight.  I met with someone who tests dogs for the national therapy dog certification.  We may get certified next week.  :). I need something really positive in my life, and bringing joy to others through my love able dog may be, "just the ticket."  :)
