A Fall Friday
10
Fri, 10-11-2013 - 8:39am

It is absolutely gorgeous here today with the low 70s, sunshine and fall colors starting to come through. My allergy attack has subsided. I have a busy day today with school, work and home so I wont get a chance to workout.

SJ, my gym is now offering laps at a nearby indoor pool as part of the gym membership. Several people I know are going to go start it. I thought of you and all the swimming you do. I am not sure if I am going to try it or not as I will have to find a decent swim suit to do so. lol

I need a new Netflix series to get started on. Hubby and I are finishing Deadwood up this weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have nothing planned this weekend but to do a little housework and relax. I'm going on a long run Sunday morning then having the family over for Chili Sunday night.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I was planning to go to Zumba yesterday, and then maybe swim, but Zumba was cancelled...not that they locked the doors to the gym, but I didn't go at all....I stayed a little late at work and did some things I have been avoiding. Then, I went to pick up a Fed ex package - I don't think I mentioned that the US Figure Skating Championships are in Boston this year - in January. I went when it was here several years ago, and I am going again. I am not as 'in' to skating now as I was then - there is something disturbing to me about the. Sexiness of the young girls - but I love the beauty of skating...and I love having something to look forward to. I then went shopping - I loveto shop, but I need very little - I am in pare down mode - but I always buy body lotion when Clinique is having 'Bonus Time' - I wear very little makeup so have a huge collection I could 'pare' but I love their moisturizer and other facial like stuff and the bonus always includes that. And I remembered that I had a gift card from a promotion they did last year, so I looked at workout clothes...and with sale, coupon, and gift card, I got two shorts for $13.50...not as good a the $.50 one from Old Navy, but not bad....I thought I was doing something with my cousin today, but I haven't heard from her, so I will go to Zumba today...because I did find it ironic to blow off the gym to buy work out clothes and wrinkle prevention....Elc, your bike area sounds beautiful. Californians are so fitness conscious, and the weather there seems to help. We have 'the Esplanade' in Boston - if you watch the Boston Pop's July 4th concert you've seen it....it is a park along the river, and people bike, run, walk, and rollerblade there, plus sail and scull on the river. I wish they had kayaks for rent, the water used to be not too clean but it is better now. They have a swim once a year to show that it is better, but no beach...FSN, hope your marathoners run well. Gymrat, your weekends sound so fum - you have a gift for friendship that I envy. Jean - enjoy your weekend with your son - I will be interested in the changes you see in him after only a few weeks away. Karla, I think you might like swimming - I find it almost meditative - I buy my bathing suits at Marshall's - just basic one piece suits...and I don't care what people think of how I look in them in the pool...I wear a t shirt over them to and from the locker room. Stephanie, hope you and your canine friend have some nice walks this weekend....

Stephanie, I'm in San Diego near downtown and Balboa Park.

FSN, today we went to Fiesta Island to ride. (my dh hates riding at the velodrome) Its a man-made island in Mission Bay, mostly undeveloped but with a nicely paved one-way road around it and a road that cuts through, creating 2 loops: the longer one is ~4 miles long, the shorter loop ~2.5 miles. Its a popular place for training on bikes, running, and since its in the bay, brick training for tri's because you can do all of the sports including the swim from one spot. There is a huge fenced leash-free dog area including access to the water for dogs that like to swim. Most of it has coarse sandy beaches and we often see people on horseback riding into the water, plus the usual paddleboarders, kite surfers, kayakers, jet skiiers, etc. Its often windy so you can get a real workout riding into the wind. So even though we're riding in circles like at the velodrome there's a lot to look at!

We're talking about going kayaking on Saturday or Monday. There's a lake about 45 mins away that rents kayaks. There are several places closer, on the bay and ocean, where we could rent them but I like the idea of the lake because it will have calmer water. I've never tried it but dh has, and it looks fun. Something different to do with my honey.

Ooohhh, I love Irvine!  I visited my girlfriend out there a couple years ago.  We went to my first hockey game (Ducks) and iit was so much fun!  I had some spa time today, with my first peel.  I am hoping to get rid of the spits on my face!  :O

Elc, that velodrome sounds awesome!  Enjoy the weather!

Karla, my dh really liked a mini-series called Top of the Lake, I think it had 7 episodes (Netflix streaming).

This morning we're taking the bikes out to the island, change it up from the velodrome. Beautiful weather in the low 70s this weekend, I hope to do some serious yardwork. Dh is volunteering at an ultramarathon in the mountains Saturday night and Sunday morning so he'll be camping up there and I'll be on my own at home.

Stephanie, are you in OC CA like Costa Mesa, Irvine etc?

Hope everybody has a good weekend.

Yay, it's Friday! Beautiful day - no clouds and expected to be 74 degrees. Walked my pooch and hopped on the elliptical this morning; expecting a light workload today. Maybe see the girls after work and golfing tomorrow :) Sunday will be filled with housework, laundry and errands....Wish you all a lovely weekend :)

I have fallen way behind on TV shows. I just caught on to the Big Bang theory, but dh doesn't like it. There sure was a lot of hoopla around, "breaking bad. "But, I am still out of it since I have no idea what that show is about. When my daughter was home, we watched glee and so you think you can dance. But, since you left, I really haven't been watching much TV. The most generic thing I watch ( that dh and I can agree on) is HGTV shows. He still likes friends, and I hate that show. C'est la vie. My allergies are still raging. I can hardly wait for the first freeze. Did I mention that my dog may go for the test to be there be dog certified next week? I've been working with him every day, looking him back into shape. And I am convinced that there is something wrong with me since I have not lost any weight on the cleanse. Perhaps I need to increase my cardio. Work today, and to "switch it up, "I am going line dancing on a Friday night. I have never gone on a weekend night, since I usually avoid the crowds that go to bars on weekends. I hate the creepy guys to try to pick me up...especially at western bars. :O Oh well, I am going for the fun dancing and exercise. Oh, and the Chicago Marathon is on Sunday where my husband and stepson will be 2 of the 45,000 runners. I have the fabric for the backing of my quilt, so I hope to make progress to get this thing done this weekend. :). Have a great weekend everyone.

Fall (real fall) sounds lovely, Karla.  I don't know if it's on Netflix but DH and I just finished The Bridge and it was excellent.  I am also a fan of the BBC series Sherlock - the episodes are mini-movies essentially.  If you haven't watched House of Cards, you should.  It's very well done and Kevin Spacey is fantastic.  We watch way too much TV so if you don't like any of those, let me know and I can give you more suggestions.

I've got one client this morning and am going to do some writing today.  DH is still recuperating so we probably won't go out tonight.  I think I'm going to pass on the workout unless I get inspired this afternoon.  I can tell I'm still getting over something.  I got bloodwork done yesterday so I'll find out in two weeks if the magic shots are working.  We're doing a day trip tomorrow to my favorite town up north thas that has great food and amazing art.  There's about 5 of us going so it should be fun.
