Sj got it right about my skiing yesterday. LOL, I was at the mountain from 8:30am-9:30pm!  It's a record for me.  I "taught" in the morning. We have this awesome program where they bring in kids from DC a few times in the winter and teach them to ski. Many are repeat visitors from year to year so they can get pretty good. For some of these kids, it's rare exercise.  We had that yesterday but it was slow other than them.  There was a clinic I wanted to attend at 6:30 for level 2 prep so I hung around the mountain all day. I got home close to 11:30 which is way past my bed time. I'm going to take it easy today.  When I got home, I told my husband I was going to sleep in today. I hear him outside my daughter's door at 6:45 (she needs to be up at 6am and has never overslept before) asking if she's going to school.  What???  Why didn't he get her up earlier?  Mad frantic rush, I stayed out of it.  He drove her and had to rush to work so both were late. I don't know why he didn't get her up on time!  I'm not looking forward to the grumpiness this afternoon when they get home.

LOL, your daughter at 15 sounds like my 15 year old now. She loves her Morningstar bacon and grillers.  Her diet is mostly starch and cheese.  Or, as we put it, she's a vegetarian who doesn't like vegetables.

SJ, at this point mammal meals aren't even on my radar because dh hasn't eaten it in over 20 years. I never got good at cooking meat so its probably better that I don't have to! I use ground turkey or chicken to sub for ground beef, and chicken thighs can sub for beef or pork in some recipes. But there are lots of good recipes that don't call for red meat, and I'm trying to head more into fish and plant-based dishes. That said, when we go to a restaurant I often have red meat. I love a filet mignon, or lamb, or ribs, or even a carne asada burrito.

Jean, as I recall dh wasn't crazy about the Morningstar products. Or maybe he just likes the Boca's a lot more. I use the Morningstar Crumbles in spaghetti sauce. My dd used to love the Morningstar breaded and fried "chick'n tenders" when she was 15 and a junk-food vegetarian----but that's a whole other topic!

That sounds great, especially w/ the instructor being cautious.  I've heard some scary stories of people pushing themselves too far in Crossfit.  And, form is so important when you're lifting heavy.  Good for you!

Jean, that's why I like this cross fit class, one that its only 30 minutes, and two the instructor is really great. He's really motivating, and he makes sure that you are doing form right and as long as you are putting in the effort, that's the important part. Friendly competition is always there, but he doesn't want anyone pushing themselves enough to get hurt. Its hard to describe, but he's one of the best overall instructors I've come across.

An almost empty flight! I don't think I've seen that since the early 90's.  I once had a plane to myself, from SF area to Monterey. It was really odd being the only passenger.  Have fun in NYC, if you can get away from work. I love being there!

ELC, does your husband like Morningstar? It's my daughter's favorite. Mine was Dr. Praegers because it wasn't trying to be meat, just a vegetable burger.

I made it to New York..flying at night wa a good plan...the plane was almost empty, and we left the gate early because 'we're all here and the pilots want to get home'. And not too much traffic from the airport, although this is 'the city that never sleeps. I brought running and swimmimng stuff, but worked too late and ate to little to workout. I think I will have to do this every other week for a few months...it interferes with the gym! And I hate that... FSN, like Jean, I grew up poor, but I have ended up dividing problems into 'what money can fix' and 'what money can't fix' and I am so grateful that I have the money to fix problems...the kind money can't fix...broken hearts of any sort,..are to me the bad problems. Jean, skiing does sound fun. And I bet your husband and daughter managed fine when you were in Vermint, so good for you for staying in bed. Catt, welcome to the daily journal. Hope you made it to DVD land. I might do some 'hotel Pilates' in solidarity with you. Aryl, cross fit looks so fum when I see competitions on tv. Is it very unpredictable what you will do each day. GR, once again, I want your life...you have purple hair?!? Karla, are you running too much. You are not a good rester. Elc, is it hard to think up non mammal meals? I don't eat a lot of red meat, but I am eating steak tonight....

So nice to see all this activity here!  Welcome to everyone who has joined us.

FSN, sounds like you're making progress on the work front and the mom front. As someone who grew up w/ a super frugal mom, I agree w/ your cousin about "it's only money."  It's why your parents worked hard--so they could make decisions like this and be able to afford it.  You can't put a price on dignity.

GR, I'd love to see pictures of the Brazilian blow out. I have to admit when I skimmed it that I thought you were doing the wax and thought, "Ouch." Since I always wanted curly/wavy hair, I can't get over that others spend that much to straighten their hair.  Ykes on the hair stylist, though. I don't know what I'd do. I go to mine because she's cheap (cut, color, highlights for $80) but there are things I don't like about her.  But, I don't know how I'd respond to racist comments. Hope Paranormal Activity is fun. I saw the first one, the husband annoyed me so much I couldn't finish watching it.

Cath, your description of your walk sounds so poetic.  Dog walking has become part of my life, too, and I realized I'm walking a good 3-4 miles extra every day. Not a bad thing!  I'm thinking I might try running w/ her in a few months when she's no longer a puppy.  The quinoia/kale burgers sound good but I'm feeling too lazy to make them!

Arryl, good luck w/ Crossfit! It seems insanely hard.

Karla, it's mid-atlantic skiing so it was in the 40's. Last year I splurged and bought a Patagonia down sweater. It's been my favorite splurge--keeps me warm in most weather. Even in the polar vortex cold last week!  I do kinesthetic taping for my plantar plate. I'm on the fence on whether it works or not. What would you do it for?

Cath, thanks for posting the link for the burgers. They sound good, and I'm always looking for recipes that use kale. I grow it in my garden and mostly its too tough to use raw. I've made soups with it recently, and sauteed some for a topping for something (fish I think) but I like the veggie burger idea. My dh doesn't eat mammals and he's not crazy about turkey burgers but he loves the Boca All-American meatless burgers...but they're a little expensive.

FSN, are you feeling calmer about work now that you have an official offer? Will your current manager continue to be your direct supervisor? Was he the one that you had trouble with, him taking credit for your ideas or something like that?

GR, what concert are you going to? You do lots of fun stuff. Karla, my dh used tape around his knee to stabilize it. He decided to use that wide flesh colored bandage tape because it wasn't as obvious as the k-tape; the PT told him it worked the same but was a lot cheaper, and the PT taught him exactly how to arrange it. Jean, good job on staying out of the late-morning madness. How old is your dd? By 12th grade I stopped getting my ds up for school, if he was late and got detention it was his problem. And since I wasn't going to be at college waking him up LOL I figured he'd better get used to it.

The weather here is glorious, dh and I took the bikes to the island to ride this morning. It was about 10 degrees cooler there than at the velodrome---the track at 80+F would have been sluggish hot but next to the water the temp was refreshing. I had the best ride I've had in a while, yay! We really need rain but if its going to be dry then it might as well be warm, right?

The burgers were sooo good.  Probably the best veggie-style burgers I have made.  My son didn't like them.  But the daughter, hubs and mom really liked them.  We had some feta cheese with them, and a nice salad and fresh green beans.  They really took a while to brown but I like the crunch factor.

Regarding the tape, my Pt used the kinesthetic tape on my wacky kneecap for several months.  I liked it and thanks for the reminder, because I think it is so much more comfy than the knee brace I went out and bought.

Welcome Cath.  You are so good to walk your dogs in this weather.  I haven't walked the dogs in so long! Boo.  Since you mentioned you are in perimenopause (?), I will mention that I just started a regimine of bioidentical HRT.  I posted some articles on them if you are interested.  I've lost my "zing" for life, and although I am not depressed, I seem "lackluster" so the HRT will, hopefully, bring some liveliness into my life.

I worked way too hard and too long today, and I did not get back in time for yoga, so I am taking a rest day today.  I think a martini is in my near future.  :)

GR, how is the writing going?  Jean, aren't you sore after a full day of skiing?  Karla, are you chauffering night and day with all of your kiddos?  SJ, what did you like most about the ice skating?

I'm gonna go collapse.  :)
