I'm in!!! Thursday

I didn't have to sign in repeatedly, either!  As with regular ski season, my workouts are unplanned and I just wing something daily, except Thursdays when I teach step. I'm teaching conditioning tonight and then might go to Zumba.  On New Years eve, I decided that I was going to stop working out for the sake of a workout and just be active whether it's skiing, aerial silks, parkour, zumba, krav maga, skating, etc. But, it's a harder resolution to keep because I've been doing it so long so I might get to the gym here and there for a good boot camp.  It's REALLY hard to let go of the idea that I HAVE to be able to do a ton of military push ups or any unassisted pull ups or burpees forever.  But, as I get older, I'm starting to think it's not that necessary and doesn't add anything to my life.

Hahaha-Jean, I am struggling with the same thing. For the past three weeks I have seen 4 different doctors and they all keep asking me why I have been doing the workouts I have been doing. One asked me if I was training for the Olympics and then asked me to ask myself why I was doing so much. I have thought about it and thought about it and came to the same conclusion you did. I'm not sure how to let go of my training mentality but I am working on it.

I went to the wellness center yesterday and received more bad news about my elbow. Unfortunately, the docs have come to the conclusion that I do not have an overuse injury. They said if it was that or a repetitive stress injury, it would be easier to correct. I'm going to be doing therapy for a while then will have more tests. We are hoping to avoid surgery and was told even then my prognosis is not great since I've been dealing with the symptoms for so many years. Ugg. I guess this is all part of aging.

Of course, I said that I'd stop training that hard and a friend asked me if I would give Olympic lifting a try so I said I'd join her for a session. I've always wanted to learn to do the snatch and clean and jerk the right way.  Ha, so if I hurt myself because I'm trying to lift 100 lbs over my head, you can all laugh at me.  OTOH, I guess I'm powering more than that up the silks when I climb it!

Sorry to hear about your elbow. Did you ever have an MRI?

I have had everything but MRI and I am expecting that soon. I have rotten health insurance so I've asked to hold off on whatever we can at this time. They even did this one test where they had me squeeze this trigger thing to measure my grip. Not sure what it was called but I thought I had a great grip and they told me it wasn't what it should be.

LOL I have to laugh over the Olympic lifting. My sister asked me to join her in cross camp tonight. LOL-how are we going to change? ;-)

Ladies!  Do I have to send you to your rooms?  Cool

Jean - I think that's a lovely goal and something I've been contending with too.  At some point you have to ask yourself why.

Karla - I'm sorry to hear about your elbow.  How frustrating.

I'm sick at home today.  I have the flu (confirmed this at doc's office yesterday).  He gave me Tamiflu but I don't know how much good it's doing.  I had the highest fever I've had overnight.  I took off work until Monday and am resting with the kitties.  DH is not feeling so hot either but he's in better shape than I am.

My workout will be getting up from the couch to pee.  Laughing

Sorry you're still sick. I've heard it's going around (or is that what people always say when they hear someone has the flu/stomach bug/etc.). I'm liking your workout! One thing I've been thinking is why I've been so obsessed w/ working out so hard and decided a good part is ego-driven. I have worked out harder than is necessary for basic fitness/health. It does feel good to be in such good shape but as I get older, the recovery is tougher and I'm wondering if it's worth it. I love showing up to any activity and know I am strong enough to do it. I might not be able to do parkour but I'm better at the fitness parts than everyone else!

Your activities sound like so much fun!  Like something to aspire towards if I was younger (e.g., if I had no injuries.)  Karla, "getting old is not for wimps" is something that my mother says a LOT.  Gymrat,  Boo!  I am on day 7 of this flu and I am still exhausted.  Take care and drink lots of water and ibuprofen and crackers!

I just woke up from a nap.  I am tired of being sick!  I just don't know if I can even get to work tomorrow, but I may try.  I haven't worked out in a week, and the thought of it exhausts me.

Ladies..I am WAY older than all of you...for me, the old I get, the better it is...I am not near ready to give up my workouts...one thing I miss about home is having more time for the gym...because of the time difference, I end up working late here...plus the gym is not as fun, but I feel so good after I work out...of course, up until 10 years ago I was a couch potato so I don't have old injuries...maybe thT's a reason to be lazy when you are young, but you all didn't think of that:). No gym tonight due to late work...I am coaching a group who neither follows directions nor really respects authority...we are saying work on A or B, nothing else, just A or B, and almost every day someone says...well I was working on X ( or C D E...). It is almost surreal....but I carry on...hope everyone starts to feel better soon...

My husband deals with the same thing all the time...  He has a boss/partner who continually tests my husband's boundaries because he's so desperate to keep his clients that he promises the world and then my husband has to deliver.  It sounds exhausting.

Maybe it's a midlife thing (or post midlife) but I'll never be completely injury free or at least pain free but I'll never be as young as I am now so I just decided I have to do it now.  Hope you get better soon! I've heard the flu is tough this year.

I feel the same way!  I'm older and better.  Recovery might take a little longer but I hope I never get to the point where I say, "I'm too old to..."  I know I'll never be as good at some things like parkour but I'm doing what I can and having fun and that's the point for me.

Is the group you're working with American or Polish?  It sounds frustrating but haha, I train dancers who don't really want to listen either!
