WOOHOOO! After a very busy weekend with family visiting it's good to have Monday roll around again. Today is supposed to be warm with periods of rain and I can't wait to get done with school so I can get outside and smell the glorious aroma of spring.

I'm doing a weight ciruit this afternoon at the gym and grilling chicken for dinner.

Ah..it feels so good!

It's so beautiful out!  LOL, why am I inside???  I was at a dance competiion all weekend so need a little break. I tried out Equinox gym--absolutely beautiful. I love the gym and the classes. I'd join if it weren't so far from me (abour 40 mins away) but it's close to my work place.  I'm only there 3 days a week, though, and probably wouldn't be able to get there all three days. I only want to do the classes.  I have access to about five other fitness facilities so don't need more.  The thing is, I could train myself easily but there is something nice and mindless about group ex classes.  There is a one year commitment and if I ever left my job, I'd be stuck in a high priced membership.  I'm really unhappy w/my current gym (the one I pay for).  What to do, what to do...

I had a few clients this morning, tired of the early hours but do enjoy it once I'm there.  I might catch Zumba tonight since my friend took over a class and do a boot camp class. Ho hum.  My workouts are just boring me to death.  Oh, I've probably been in fitness too long.  Last Tuesday, I tried that new step class and the instructor asked if I was an instructor. She said I just look like one. And, at the step class at Equinox (super advanced), the instructor asked me and my friend if we were new to step and when we said no, she looked at me and said I looked familiar and she's seen me around somewhere.  Probably DCAC?  Someone asked us after class if we were step instructors because we got the choreography and no one new ever does but they'd all been w/ this instructor for years.

Jean, does Equinox let you pay by the class? Are they looking for instructors? If they are near your work, maybe you could fit in a class in exchange for a class pass. Figuring out the best gym deal is tricky. I always feel like Iif I paid by the class, I would go less, but financially I think sometimes it would be cheaper than a membership. I will do something for the summer at the Cape. They usually have a 'six weeks for' some amount deal. That plus a couple weeks of paying by the lass might get me through, but I have to figure out the timing. Karla - the weather looks nice here, but it is till cold. I went to the Cape this weekend for a family birthday party. I was the thinnest person the (and I am not thin). There was way too much food, and it reminded me that my family does not know how to eat healthy or understand normal portions. Wht tht says to me is I cannot rely on what 'seems' OK to me food wise. I need a plan, an I need to not let myself delude myself about what I am eating. I am the oldest of 'my' group of cousins...there are other older, and they are their own group. This weekend, I was thinking that I will outlive them because they cannot be that healthy. I hope this will help me with motivation. I went to the gym today -14 minutes bike warmup, lifting for chest/back, abs, ran 1.5 miles, 20:15. Faster than Thursday. I did floor abs/stretching last night. last week workout wise I did everything I planned. This week, I hope to duplicate that, plus feel proud about what I eat.

SJ, I come from a very large family as well (not only large as in the amount of people-50+ first cousins-but the size of them too). Most of my aunts and their daughters look like NFL linebackers. At 5'10 and about 135 lbs, My sisters and I are about the size of the young teenagers in the family. My older brother is 6'4 and 315lbs (at least) and he is about average size for the men. When anyone gets together in our family it is all about the food. And I mean lots of food. One look at what everyone is eating and there is no surprise that heart disease runs rampant among the crowd!

Equinox does have a pay by the day but it's $25.  This is a really stupid mind game but I can pay per month and not think about it but if I have to pay $25 each time, I'd pass.  And, even if I only went 4 times a month so it was cheaper, I still wouldn't do it.  I'm such an opportunity cost type person which is why I can't make a decision. I start thinking I could do private skating lessons for $25 and I'd rather do that.  But, really, there is no reason I couldn't do both. Ugh.  I hate being so frugal!

I hear you on the unhealthy family thing. It isn't even a weight thing but when I get together w/ my in laws, I'm probably the biggest person (well smallest in law who married into the family) size wise in proportion to height but I'm by far healthiest.  They're all naturally thin and they have such unhealthy foods and no one works out.  My husband has high cholesterol and doesn't do anything about it.  They all think I'm the lunatic.

Given what we all experience in our families, why is anyone surprised that we have such unhealthy people in thie country? They study it to death, soda, HFCS, etc. but really, it's the lifestyles.  Let's put the research into helping people change theirs instead of trying to attribute it to something else.
