It's a cold Wednesday

Brrrr. Brrrr. And Brrrr again.

I went ahead and ran 5 miles this morning. It was 20 degrees when I started and 21 when I finished. It was a hard run. I could have used another layer but wasn't totally miserable so I will make note of what I wore and chalk the whole thing up to a learning experience. First, I started off cold. I kept thinking I would warm up but I stayed cool almost the entire run. I really put much effort into my run this morning and thought it was the weather I was struggling with, but afterwards I am thinking it was more of a pace issue. I had my iphone with running app under my layers so I had no idea how fast/slow I was going. With the wind and the cold, I couldn't accurately judge my pace. As it turns out I was a full minute faster per mile than I typically run so that may explain why I wasn't as comfortable as I normally am. lol

I have a roast in the crock pot for dinner and am going to go to the library for some new books later today.

What is everyone else up to?

Karla, my nose is running just reading your post.  (That's what happens when I exercise in the cold.  My nose just becomes a faucet.)  How did your sister's allergy appointment go?

Rest day for me today.  Working on several projects and proposals this morning.  Not sure what else I'm going to do.  We're meeting some friends tonight at a wine bar.  We were supposed to go do a wine class but it got canceled so OP decided to "create" our own wine class.  Cool

Wow, Karla, you've gotten so hard core w/ running!  I'm wimpy about it so if I feel like I'm working hard, I slow down.  For me, just getting out there is good.  I had some early morning clients and am still trying to work out my life w/ new puppy. I have no idea how I'll get to the gym.

I have to rant, too.  I have this older client who thinks she's super low maintenance but she's not.  I had her do this move this morning, sit on the bench, stand up.  Step onto a reebok step, step down.  She told me I needed to know that she doesn't want to work out like I would and she doesn't need moves that are that hard.  I love feedback but it was the comment that it was something I'd do as a workout that floored me.  As if I'd ever have her do anything I really do--"I want you to leap at that 6 ft wall, pull yourself up and over it and keep running."

lol Gym-about the running nose. I carried tissues with me today. My sister asked me if I had trouble breathing in the cold and I told her that my only problem breathing was that I nearly drowned in my own snot. LOL I know-tmi!

Jean, I honestly thought I was struggling with the wind (wind chill in the single digits) and was determined to get through the run. I had on a hat and my hoodie pulled up over my head and tied because my face/neck was freezing. I am not sure I can manage temps too much colder.

It is supposed to be near 70 on Saturday. I can't believe this weather!

lol Your client sounds like my mother. She is 77 and I don't know how her Silver Sneakers coach can manage to be nice to her. And the rest of them. They complain a LOT!

Sounds like my mom, too!  Don't get me wrong, I definitely want feedback.  But I thought it was funny that she thought the move was something out of my own workout!  I'm not that extreme of a trainer!

Karla, you are so hardcore now!  Running in the cold sounds like torture since I don't like running.  :P. Jean, your client souwimp like a whiner.  Eegads.  She must be hiring you, hoping that your persistence and level of toning will transfer to her through osmosis.  GR, you always have fun stuff going on.  I worked day one with my manager and I "had the goalkeeper" with him.  S far, so good...he thanked me for having the courage to voice my thoughts, and SEEMED to do a 180 on his behavior to the point that I was uncomfortable.  We shall see if this lasts, as there were several things he could have reamed me about that he did not.  Day two is tomorrow.  Wish me luck.  In the meantime, I have to go to my vienneses waltz class.  I hope the odd man brushes his teeth and gargles before class. :O

It is cold here too. I am not ready for winter....so it's probably a good thing I am going to Florida this weekend....Jean, that move doesn't sound that hard...and I am sure no client wants to climb walls with you...Karla, no wonder you ran faster in that cold. FSN, good for you for speaking up to your manager. Gymrat, do it yourself wine class sounds fun. I went to the gym to lift for legs, then swam 60 laps. I am only working out three days this week, but I am making them count.

I didn't think it was too hard, either. Plus, I broke it down so I had her get up first a few times. Tnen do the step up. Put it together.  I can understand mutltimoves being mentally difficult and that's not a problem. In hindsight, I think I was bothered that she thought I was that careless of a trainer that I'd even think of having her do something as difficult as I do, and that my workouts were THAT simple. OTOH, I did have another client chuckle because she was in great shape but ths client told her that they essentially do the same work out.  Somehow mountain climbers w/ feet in the TRX isn't the same as hands on a bench in a plan position and tapping alt feet!
