Thirsty Thursday

Something about this horrible cold weather makes me so thirsty. Sorry I didn't make it yesterday, I was so very busy. I did make it to the gym to do some running and so far so good. My foot/leg are feeling fine. I had the hvac people over for my seasonal check up and they said I had one of the warmest houses in town thanks to my woodstove. Most of us around here have heatpumps and they aren't made to deal with this kind of cold. People are having to run their emergency heat to stay warm. It is crazy. I don't remember a winter like this since I was a child.

It took me almost two hours to get to Walmart (just a few miles from my house) and back yesterday. This area just can't handle this kind of ice and snow. The roads were icier than I have seen in decades. Once I was out I realized I probably shouldn't be but I needed a few items. We are expecting up to 6 inches more of snow tomorrow with single digit temps next week.

I may try to get to the gym later today but it is not looking great. We got another inch of snow last night and it was just enough to make the already icy roads worse. UGG I need to go spend a few days with one of you girls out west!

Morning karla, I posted on the Wednesday thread but thought maybe I'd just repost that one on Today's thread.  After all, it is today, not yesterday! :)   Your woodstove sounds toasty!

All this talk about food lately  motivated me to make a good dinner last night, I made a moroccan chickpea and lentil soup which is becoming a staple for us, we had some crusty bread, and also a kale/potato gratin (cheeseless but I caved and grated some Parm. regianno on top at the end) and roasted asparagus.  Guess what?  Even my 14 yo ate with gusto though I was priming myself for the typical moaning and groaning.  I was glad because that is a lot of effort for a weekday dinner.  Then we settled down to watch a couple of episodes of West Wing and then I did pilates and knee exercises while dh walked both dogs by himself.  It is just too cold for me.  Negative anything is when I throw in the towel!  LOL, it was -1..I am not usually so fixated upon my weight, but I have decided to get on the scale every monday and thursday for a while to see what is happening there and stay on top of it.  I am one pound down from monday so that is a little something to keep me moving.  I find that when I know I have to weigh myself every week or so, i am more motivated to stay on track.  My knee feels kinda mushy today but I will keep at it!

I do not envy your cold weather!  Hope you all are managing to stay warm.

I am in the unique position of being able to stay home all day today!  I'm working on my writing projects - lots to do before I leave next week and I may need to put in some weekend time.  I just did 40 minutes on the elliptical so I'll shower soon and put my jammies back on - love days when I can do that.

Its raining out, not a lot, but the temp is at 43 right now. I am fine in the cold, I grew up in Michigan, but I have a meeting at 2:00 and I am not chancing going out in the rain to work out (if class isn't cancelled since its outdoors), and being blah and wet for my meeting. I brought my leftover roasted cauliflower and chickpeas, though I really would prefer a big cheesy pizza! We are doing spaghetti squash and meatballs tonight for dinner, if I get a chance I'll pick up some gluten free bread on the way home and make garlic bread slices with it, but it'll depend, they moved up the "storm" and its supposed to be flurries for the rush hour drive home.

Brrrr, I am feeling like I will never feel warm again!  I took the puppy for two short walks but don't want her out too long in this weather.  My morning fitness class was cancelled, although the roads are clear. I hope none of the regulars showed up!  I had a couple of exhausting advice clients today. They were so sweet and so nice but not open to hearing what I said. Sometimes I feel like Gloria in that episode in Modern Family when she says she has all the answers but no one is listening to her.  The person was avoiding sugar, cut out all starches but 80% of the diet was fruit, fresh and dried, and huge quantities. I couldn't convince him that it was a lot of sugar.

I love reading what everyone is eating these days. Good ideas. Maybe we should have a thread on good recipes/ideas for food. I used to be so much better about cooking but am too tired between skiing and the puppy and working. Good thing I only work part time!

LOL, between the two of us, we could rule the world but no one would listen to us!
