Thorough Thursday

Ugg! I have spent the day dusting and I hate it. It seems like the more I drag out, the worse things look. I keep asking myself why I am doing it. Will anyone (other than my sister who is not coming to Thanksgiving dinner) dare to look around and say something about my lack of housekeeping if I should never dust again?

I am going to some weight lifting this afternoon and then I'm heading over to visit my granddaughters for a while. I enjoy going to their house because I can then leave anytime I want. lol

What are you up to today?

Probably not but you could always pay someone to do it.  Paying someone to do things I absolutely hate doing is worth it's weight in gold.  At least, IMO...

I did a strength workout this morning that went pretty well.  Also had an ultrasound to check my cyst in my ovary....  I have to get official word from the doc but the tech thinks it's an ovulation cyst which is no big deal.  Here's hoping she's right.  I'd rather not lose my remaining ovary.  Met with the new tenants and get them all situated.  They are moving in this weekend.

Hanging out at home this afternoon and we're headed out for a friend's birthday tonight.

Karla, i'm with Gymrat on paying someone to clean...they are so much more efficient than I am...and I agree with you on visiting children, and leaving when the fun is done...I am packed for Florida...t shirts and shorts...my dad sent me a very funny video of people slipping and sliding in the snow...it it snows here while I am in Florida, I might mail in my retirement papers....I am not looking forward to winter in New England, even after winter in Poland last year...I went to the gym, lifted for shoulders, bis, and tris, and ran two mile. I used an old treadmill, and if it can be lelieved, I ran two miles in 24:53...which is very fast for me and makes me think the calibration was off.....

LOL, Karla, there was just a comic strip where the mom and dad are lying down exhaused and one says, "Finally, we're ready for Thanksgiving" and the other sayd, "We only ahve the cooking to do now!"  That's how I feel when we get ready.  Long day, taught a BOSU class which was fun. I think I want to get away from step now.

I don't know if I mentioned it here but a couple weeks ago, I was talking to someone about women and binge drinking (ie 3-4 servings of alcohol in one night, a few times a week). I regularly have a glass or two of wine a few times a week, less than every other day, probably.  But, I get 4 1/2 glasses per bottle and this person told me they considered a bottle has 7 glasses.  I did ask this question on facebook.  Anyway, given that measurement, it would put me into that three glasses a few times a wekk.  With that in mind, I've been passing on the wine at night. I'm not concerned about drinking as much as it was eye opening.  Anyway, since then, I've lost that 5 lbs that came on overnight! It's not the wine itself but I think it's the food I'm not eating anymore that looks too good to pass up when I have a glass of wine. This is definitely not a permanent thing but I wanted to see if it would make a difference.

Gym, good idea on paying someone to clean. But where do you find someone dependable and trustworthy? I live in a very small town and don't want someone looking through my stuff so they can go back and blab to other people. We had that happen at the bank. A gal who used to work for my husband got a job at the bank and told everyone how much he made and all about our financial situation. We were livid! She got fired but the damage was already done.

And Yikes on the ovary. I had my first removed at 28 and my second at 34. It was not fun. I hope your doc is right.

SJ, I am so jealous. I haven't been to Florida in a few years. I would love to be on the beach right now. I had a very cold, lousy run this morning and I'm trying to shake it off. Ugg

Congrats on your fast run! I feel so good when I realize I have just run my fastest. :-) I have been wondering about how accurate a treadmill is too with running times. I have spent years walking on a tread but don't have a lot of experience running on one so I am not sure how comparable they are to road times.

Jean, whoever came up with the comic strip was probably at my house the week or two before Thanksgiving. lol

I don't drink but my husband has recently been drinking quite a bit and he has really put on the pounds so I think you might be on to something with the drinking and weight gain.

The problem for me is that I'm such a lighweight and even half a glass makes me tipsy enough that I reach for all sorts of food that I wouldn't normally eat. Or, all portion control goes out the window. I was working out calories wise and it's about a pound per three weeks in just alcohol.  So, it's something but not as significant as the 5 lbs I've lost in two weeks.  Now the extra pizza, buffalo wings, etc...

I think alcohol also causes fluid retention because it is dehydrating. And I always feel like the first weight you gain and lose is water weight. I am in Florida and it has been raining since I got here....but it is warm...partially because Dad keeps the house at 80....so wearing shorts is no problem...
