Lots of rain and thunderstorms last night.  It was great rowing in the warm rain but we had to clear out quickly when the thunderstorms came through--we become lightening rods out there on a metal boat w/ metal oars... I just realized, between graduation stuff and recitals, I can't finish out the learn to row series. I'm hoping w/ the rowing I've done in the past and the few days of LTR that I can move on to real rowing.  I'm taking a rest day today, more because I don't know what to do w/ myself on Tuesdays.  I guess I could do Zumba. I also have been "active" days in a row but since they're not officially workouts, I don't think about taking a rest day. If I row, it's like doing a jog when it's hard, but just for a few minutes, and then it's a lot of rest.  It'll be harder once we really row.

Here's a question. Who works on flexibility?  Do you do it on your own? I need to work on it but hate doing it. I do the brief, post workout stretches but need to spend more time.  Classes? I wish there were stretch classes!

Flexibility is a major issue with me. I am not a flexible person and struggle with working on it. I try to stretch a little each day but since it is not really high on my priority list, I don't make as much effort as I probably should.

I did a weight circuit with my sister on Sunday that has my glutes so sore today I think I am just going to try to walk it off later.

Hubby has to work tonight so Abby and I will probably just eat whatever we can find in the fridge.

I'm not motivated to do stretch long enough on my own. I need a class or something. It's limiting for silks which is my biggest motivation. I wonder if I'd be motivated enough to do a DVD.

Jean, I work on flexibility in the sense that I stretch after every workout.  I do quick standing stretches on cardio and longer, more intense stretching on strength days.  I'm naturally pretty flexible though so most of the stretching (and foam rolling) is an effort to get those darn knots out of my muscles.

I put up Anniversary pics on FB as I too lazy to post them here.  Wink

I'm off again today.  Doing strength training this morning, having lunch with a friend, and then headed down to OP's.  My lunch date is a guy I've known for 7 or 8 years but we've never been particularly close.  He and his wife have recently decided to divorce and it's been very difficult for him.  He reached out to me recently so we're re-connecting.

I woke up with my sinuses completely clogged. Either I have a cold on top of a cold, allergies on top of a cold, or my cold is progressing. I am absolutely exhausted. However, I have way too much work to do with another dinner program coming up tomorrow night. What I would really like to do is to lay down and go to sleep, but I can't. I haven't worked out since Friday, because I've just been too sick. I feel like a slug. Okay, enough of the downer talk. I'm having a lot of fun with my quilt design. I also realize I need to get caught up with my pictures. Ciao for now. Make it a great day. :)

I do stretching after working out but never enough. I need to increase flexibility but don't want to put in the time. Wahwahwah. I need to suck it up.

Have fun at lunch!

Hope you get better soon!  If you're tired, maybe sleeping is better than working out. Your body might just need the rest, epsecially given all you have going on.

I am not flexible, sometimes I think in any sense of the word. Pilates class ends with stretching, and good Zumba starts and ends, but I feel like the hold is too short. I am working on balance, which I am also bad at. I stand on one foot and try to count to a hundred without falling over, and stand with my feet crossed and my arms overhead...I try to do this when I am watching tv, or waiting for something like the bathtub to fill or the kettle to boil. I think I am crazy sometimes. It is raining here, I guess other than the weekend, it's been raining for weeks. The Danube river is flooding..I think the whole world has gone weather crazy. I got up and worked out today, 20 minute run, followed by lifting or legs interspersed with abs. I would really like to go to Zumba tomorrow, but other people are here and I should probably go out with them. Tonight I worked late...it was not a good work day but because of stuff in the US, and I has to order them to go o dinner without me...I live alone, I need a lot of alone time...and that's the whine from here....

Re: stretching, I LOVE yin yoga. The class is up to one hour of stretching. I love all of the stretching in yoga, in general. But, at my age, I now know that I have to warm up my muscles first, so I have been doing the elliptical for 10-30 minutes before yoga, definitely 30 minutes before yin yoga. My injured hamstring is much happier that way!!! My body just feels better, overall, when I stretch. I am not very limber, but much more flexible since doing the regular stretching!!! A class is the only way I stretch regularly. Phew. I am exhausted! After working today, I came home today, and took a LONG nap. I feel so much better now, although I am definitely still sick!

How awesome to be there, even in the rain. I'm trying to be flexible, overall in life, but right now the limitation is for silks.  My balance is pretty good I think.  We did this exercise at parkour where the instructor put a vault (like a 8" wide beam w/ sides) next to a big orange box, same height. I was standing on one leg on the vault, trying to figure out how to get over the orange box and only step once. I stood there for the longest time on one foot trying to make it work. I didn't but in my mind, success was that I stood on one leg up high for that long.  It didn't matter that I failed the task!

Yoga would be great but it's an hour and there's no way I'd do it for so long. It makes me hyper.  I could do a quick 15 minute class, though! The killer was bikram that was 90 minutes. The challenge wasn't doing it; it was in staying the whole time. THAT was success to me.
