According to Health Day news, a new survey shows that only 12% of Americans practice healthy habits like exercise, eating right and brushing and flossing their teeth daily:
"Lack of time seems to be the key reason why only 12 percent of American adults regularly practice such healthy habits as eating right, exercising, and brushing and flossing their teeth, according to an American Heart Association (AHA) survey.
The survey found that 80 percent of respondents said they struggled to eat at least nine servings of fruit and vegetables a day, and about 60 percent said it was difficult to get the recommended levels of exercise -- at least 150 minutes a week of moderate activity such as brisk walking.
The survey also found that 25 percent of respondents don't brush and rinse twice a day or floss at least once a day, as recommended." READ MORE

Hi Carol,
Yes, yes, yes.
I brush twice daily and flossing...well that's something I do when I get something stuck between my teeth and
Ugh...I'm "with you" on the dental anxiety.
Why would they want dentists to be mean to children? Mine have always been incredibly patient and kind to my kids.
She did a fasting blood test, it came back high --- not nasty high but higher than the experts want, had another done and it came back high as well. Put me on metformin and sent me to a nutritionist and did another blood test and A1C three months later and I was fine. Dropped the metformin by half because I was getting wobbly in the AM and the A1Cs held for about four years. Now they are climbing again so the metformin is back to the original levels and she's talking a urine test next time as well as the usual A1C...
The nutritionist gave me portion control lessons and the GP took me off "white Food" (white potatoes, white rice, white flour and white-flour based foods) and sweet corn (Oh, that hurt, here in NW Ohio in summer with corn on the cob a staple of every meal!) --- and steered me toward whole grains, and at least five servings of fruits adn veg a day. I'm pretty good about holding to that diet but will occasionally go off (potatoes at holidays and sweet corn once in a while in summer --- can't resist).

Dental anxiety --- I have the same. I think MINE is due to the fact that I'm old enough to remember dental work pre-novocaine! And there's something Pavlovian about the sound of a drill and that smell of burning enamel that takes me right back, novocaine or not! I

Well I don't buy the "I don't have time excuse", this is the picture I posted for our weekly monday post:
I do think that unless it's fatal, painful, or really hits you in the wallet, people just don't pay attention to health concerns that attack gradually. Maybe if after not flossing for three days your teeth fell out you'd pay more attention. But gum disease happens gradually. And if you only see your dentist once a year you might not pay attention. I know I floss on a semi-regular basis, but definitely don't do it ever day!
I agree.
