Have you ever read David Mitchell? He's worth a try. I mostly read Booker Prize picks so I know I'm not getting junk, bios, histories and old classics. And the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is an old favorite, lol. But I'll read a good celebrity trash magazine if no one's looking. ;) What about you?

I head the rationale on weights and high BP is that it can make your BP spike dangerously. I still do toning exercises, but I'm not really satisfied with the results. it seems that the weight training was key in maintaining my fitness level. I've started using small weights again, though.

Hi Beeblebrx! Welcome! I'm a huge reader too, although haven't read any Mitchell, and only a few of the Booker Prize picks. I have a looonggg list of books on hold at the library that I'm waiting impatiently to come in!

Do you use a heart rate monitor at all during your exercise? Have they suggested that you try to maintain a certain heart rate during exercise? Do they know the reason for the HBP? I know - how nosy am I? LOL

Hi Miranda! I used to use a monitor but stopped once I was very fit. Now that you mention it, I probably need to use it again. It's easy to train at too high a heart rate if you're trying to regain lost ground, isn't it? My doctors told me I can "do cardio, but not too hard." They never specified a heart rate.

The HBP runs in the family on my mother's side. Funnily enough, they say it's symptomless but I felt it. The pills keep it under control.

I've read almost everything by Philippa Gregory, I'm in the middle of The Red Queen right now.
