Need advice - trying to get back into a jogging routine

Hello,

Last fall I got into a great routine of jogging about 15-25 km per week, usually around 4 km per jog. I have always had a mild case of asthma, so any more than 5 km and I started to have trouble breathing, even though I would prepare myself for each jog by taking my inhaler a couple of times.

Over the winter I had a bad spell of pneumonia, and then it was too cold to jog, around -5C to -15C which for me makes it very difficult to breath while jogging. Now that the temperatures are back up, I am trying to get back to where I was in the fall but want to know how to ease my way back into a routine, and what is healthy? I would like to be able to jog about 25 km per week without any problem, but since I took such a long break, I don't know if I should just pick up where I left off or start out with only jogging about 10 km per week. How do you re-train your lungs/cardio after being away from it for a few months?

I really love to jog since it has so many benefits, especially to tone muscles and increase energy levels. Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks,

Hi angel_grl, welcome to the board!

Getting back into running after any sort of layoff can be difficult, I know!

Thanks shebeest for the links. I am now jogging 2 km 3 or 4 times per week with no stopping and am feeling great. I will start at 2.5 next week and then go from there! Your links were helpful, thanks again :)
