Were you overweight as a child or teenager? How did it affect your adult life?

Yes, I have been overweight my whole life and recently learned that my weight is actually a symptom of deeper, possibly unresolved issues. It has negatively affected my way of thinking, the way I view my body and how I've coped and handled my relationships w/people. I am currently in therapy and learning so much about myself. I am determined not to let this weight hold me back any longer. I'm ready to be free of physical & mental bondage; ready to live life to fullest instead of just existing and watching it pass me by...

Oh yay for you!!! Have you ever watched that show HEAVY? Many of the people on there are learning to resolve their issues that stem from childhood.

So do you have a plan now? What kind of things are you doing?

Skinny as a rail until 50 hit. Blasted metabolism shift.

Oh the good ol' days.

What's funny is that as a baby, the doctors worried because I didn't gain weight easily. So they had my mom start some really bad habits that are hard for me to still overcome. Feeding me before bedtime is the worst one.

I've always had heavy thighs (inherited). I've always been heavy set but I think that my biggest problems with losing it is that I have two skinny minnies in the house who need to have a ton of calories and I hate making two meals.

I don't think that being heavy when I was younger affected my adult life other than making sure that we eat healthy foods. I think about the food pyramid when we eat.

I always thought I was overweight when I was a child/teen, but looking back at pictures now, I wonder what in the world I was thinking. I was at a healthy weight for my height, I was active and enjoyed doing a lot of things.

How did it affect me as an adult? Self-image.... my self-image has never been very positive.

No, I had never had a problem with my weight until I grew older.

I wasn't overweight, but have never been what you would call svelte. LOL I do know that when I was in gymnastics I was told it would be better if I could drop some weight, and I think I was at a fairly healthy weight at the time. I don't know that it has had really negative impact, but I do know that I just have to work harder at keeping it off as an adult!

No, if anything I was underweight. I never thought that until I got older and saw pictures of myself in high school. I was very thin and had a tiny waist.

Isn't that a shame that you have gone through your entire life with self image issues all for nothing. Why do you think you thought you were fat as a child/teen? Did someone call you fat or were you teased?

I was fairly small in high school but I'm not sure I have ever had what would be called a tiny waist.
