Hi Erica! Like you, I was concerned about the spiritual aspect of Yoga until I actually got into it and realized I had a lot of wrong preconceived notions about it. I started classes at a Christian organization and I was so happy that I gave it a try.

I think the only thing you can really do is keep practicing. Downward dog looked so easy in videos and pictures until I actually started doing it myself. lol There are a many poses that I have to do the easy form or modified version of. Does your instructor offer modified poses for beginners? You might want to try those first until you are more confident.

Hi, Karla. The teacher does give lots of suggestions for modifying the poses. You're right...I totally thought downward dog would be easy. Looking forward to class tomorrow!

lol Erica. My sister and I are in decent enough shape; we have been doing martial arts for years and we both have earned world certified black belts in TKD. Well,

The best way to adjust a pose in a specific way other than practice is to ask the teacher specifically. Maybe after class. Practice is all well and good but if there is a correction you need, practicing your way wont help. An experienced teacher can often come up with a variety of ways to think of something till one clicks with you.
I have been doing yoga for some time and I still frequently ask my teachers for adjustments if I feel something is not working the way it should.
Welcome and have fun!

Thanks, Kristy. The teacher told me to put more weight into my legs than my arms. I'll ask her again for more input. Thanks for the tip.

Sure. I once had a teach have me go back acne forth between plank and downward dog to help me support ut better through my shoulder blades and core instead if my arms. That helped me a lot especially since I have shoulder issues.

Hi Erica,

I just want to let you know we have moved! When you get to the new location where the Yoga posts are, you'll see you are on a board called Gym Rats. The name will be changing soon as we get more organized so please bear with us.

How was class this week?
