Should you lose weight before starting to run or can you start running to lose weight?

Mofdifying your diet and increasing activity at the same time is the best way to go.  There are many helpful publications and websites from the federal government that can help.  I recommend the Bright Futures series for women located at http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/physician-resources/public-health/promoting-healthy-lifestyles/adolescent-health/patient-handouts.page?

Running can definitely aid you in weight loss so as long as you aren't in pain while running, go for it. I started with a Couch to 5K plan quite a few years ago and it really helped me to transition from walking to running.

Very good for you! My husband and I started jogging several weeks ago and we have both lost a few pounds. He seems to be loosing faster than me but not sure how he is doing it as we are both exercising the same. Good luck on your decision to get started. Everyone told me to start with good shoes and that is what I did.

Depends on how much weight you need to lose!  If you are just slightly overweight, running is a great way to burn calories.  If you are obese, running can put a lot of stress on your joints and possibly heart.
