Well everyone we just passed the 2 mile marker and are going to go for 3 this week if the weather holds out. My husband wants us to get into one of those 3K races but I am scared. I don't feel we have enough practice to race but he says people like us do it all the time. Can you tell me your experience with those kind of races? Are there beginners?

Hi Jayne,

Congrats to you and your husband! Have you looked into some local races? My gym and local hospital sponsor several races a year. It attracts quite a crowd ranging from the very beginners to those who are very competetive. The entire community usually turns out to help support and cheer on the athletes and it is all very fun.

Good luck and let us know when your first race will be. :-)

Congrats on starting to build up mileage. Most races around here are 5K (3.1 miles) or more. Active.com usually has them listed. If you have a local running store, check their website too. Even if you have to walk/run, the feeling you get from finishing a race is worth it. Good luck!
