About 10 years ago, a young woman went out jogging in our town and disappeared. She was never heard from again, and there has not been one piece of evidence or clue found. About 6 years ago, her family and friends started a scholarship 5K run/walk in her honor. Today, that run had over 700 runners (in a very small town), including school kids who helped raise money in her memory.
I work out with her sister, and I did Karate with her mother. This morning, my husband woke me up at 5 a.m. and said, "We have to run. We have an obligation to them." We got up, went and registered, and after not running anything longer than a mile in more than 27 years--My husband and I ran the 3.1 miles (5K). Neither of us stopped the entire way. He finished in 25 minutes, while I was 27 minutes. Not too bad for non-runners, huh?
Next race, I'm walking....
