What kind of things were you feeling when you first started having issues with your diabetes? At what point did you get concerned enough to visit the doctor?

The American Diabetes Association has information on symptoms of diabetes here:   http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-basics/symptoms/   There's also a link on that page where you can take a short online quiz to help determine your risk of diabetes. My recommendation is if in doubt, contact your doctor - it never hurts to be proactive! ~Lynn @Glucerna

Jaynedo100,

There are 7 classic signs of diabetes which you will find listed on the ADA website. But to further answer your question, if you have a close family history of diabetes and are over weight you need to be watched more closely. And it depends upon your age.

I have been diabetic for close to 25 years. I am a third generation diabetic and I was over weight and sedentary. I felt absolutely awful and couldn't figure out. So when I was diagnosed it was a relief to know what was wrong and I set out to do what was necessary to manage my disease and get myself healthy. Even though I still weigh more than the doctors would like, I have my disease under good control with an A1C of 6.8. I weigh 70 pounds less than when I was diagnosed. Other healht issues limit me more than my diabetes. I took seriously what I was told and what I needed to do and I did it.

What is your history? How old are you and how much exercise do you get?
