Question about body odor
Mon, 03-17-2014 - 12:57am

A co-worker of mine smells really bad. We aren't sure if its lack of bathing (she doesn't look dirty) or if its a medical reason. I did a bit of researching myself and found out about trimethylaminuria (fish malodor syndrome) which gives a person a fishy smell, well, she smells like a bag of rotten potatoes. Have any of you experienced this before? Any idea what it could be? She doesn't smell strong the whole day, just last week she smelled fine in the morning but awful before her 8 hour shift was over. She also has Celiacs disease, would that have any effect?

I am not sure what the cause of the smell could be. It sounds like others have noticed the odor, too. If it is a real problem in the workplace you could perhaps approach your boss or supervisor, who could then talk to her about it. Hopefully this would be a tactful person who could make it less embarrassing for your co-worker. This is a really sensitive and difficult sort of issue to deal with. Good luck.
