Do you ever think about how healthy your heart is? Name something you do to make sure your heart stays healthy.

I do because I am almost 58 and I just got diagnosed with high blood pressure. I want to take care of me cause I cant afford to be sick and I have no one else to take care of me. (lol)I had some heart tests and doc says to walk and lose weight and eat better, etc.etc.
I walk almost everyday and I eat a very low carb and sugar diet and have lost ten pounds so far.. I eat alot of fresh veggies and fruits and do the best I can with what I have.
All the time!
My paternal Grandfather died from heart failure and there was heart disease on my paternal Grandmother's side of the family as well. Both brothers and I seem to be prone to high cholesterol (maybe from my Mom's side --- where stroke was an issue) and so we all three are on statins to control cholesterol and I watch what I eat (low salt, low fat...) And I try, not very successfully, to keep walking for exercise...

My mom works for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and two years ago my uncle had a massive heart attack. So I'm aware of the issues and how lifestyle plays a huge role in heart health.
I also, do the low carb, low sugar and it seems to be working to help me lose weight as well.
So I've been on a low sodium diet for years and I've been watching my portions lately, too, since I eat mostly healthy, but just too much of it.
LOL
Excellent Question Karla!
I do think about it.
My Mom died of a heart attack.
I had a heart attack at 49.
It will be four years ago this May.
A friend of mine passed away Sat.
She was younger than me.
Still in shock I think.
The best thing we can do is take care of ourselves by taking care of our health, being pro-active as possible.
I take my medication, cut out salt/sodium, reduced my caffeine intake.
I am a non-smoker so that was not really an issue for me.
I try to eat healthier and exercise as much as possible with the RA
sorry to hear about your friend.. was it her heart?
I lost weight and I walk and I am so watching my diet like crazy. I have cut out alot of salty stuff and . I dont smoke but I am almost 58 years old and I do take meds for high bp so far.. but I am getting a bit concerned about other disease as I age. I just gave up sugar and high carbs and trying to stay as proactive as I can.. I just dont think its enough but what else can we do?
I think for me I have a hard time managing stress. I always say I will do yoga or meditation but I dont.. The stress thing is the worst for me because my life is not exactly where I want it to be.
I always think let me live the life I want and have less stress but with other concerns I never get around to actually really doing that.
