According to Health Day News, a new study has found that high blood pressure in women may be worse than in men. "High blood pressure might be more dangerous for women than men, a new study suggests.

As a result, women may need earlier and more aggressive treatment for the condition, the study authors said.

"The medical community thought that high blood pressure was the same for both sexes, and treatment was based on that premise," lead author Dr. Carlos Ferrario, a professor of surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, said in a medical center news release. "This is the first study to consider sex as an element in the selection of [drugs to treat high blood pressure] or base the choice of a specific drug on the various factors accounting for the elevation in blood pressure."" read more

The blood pressure is high, it means that the pressure inside the arteries is increased. This condition is known as hypertension and puts women who have this condition to a greater risk of developing heart diseases, strokes or kidney diseases.

I just came across this post and had to share.  I have high blood pressure and I am on two different medications, but it has not went down or I should say stayed down.  It can be inconsistent.  But, I had a big scare the other night.  I felt a bit dizzy and so I took my bp on our home monitor.  It had never been so high.  It was:  160 / 123  I was scared.  It has went down again since I contacted my doctor.  Is those numbers stroke level or does anyone know?  Just want opinions, thanks.
