Life begins at 50?

I spent all my early adult years raising children and doing for everyone else. And now suddenly, I am doing for myself. I have spare time, my husband and I are doing reasonably well financially, we've taken up some things together and are thinking about doing some traveling. While I am a little bored and am thinking about getting a volunteer position somewhere, I feel so liberated. I'm in good health and I feel better than I have at so many other times in my life. I am thinking it is true that life begins at 50.

Jayne, I am going to have to agree with you. I enrolled in college, am working on an exercise program, getting more sleep than I ever have in my life and exploring new recipes. I have time to read for pleasure even and it feels great.

I think you're right... especially if you keep active in body and mind! This can be our "me" time, no doubt, and volunteering is a good thing to get involved in. Knowing you have a purpose and goals can be so rewarding. It's the time to savor life!

I think keeping busy and keeping healthy is the key. I loved teaching, but I also love being retired!!! I am busy as I ever was.
