We can't buy jellies in the shops. Kraft brought out Apple jelly in the 60s and I loved it, so did the kids, but that disappeared. Jam used to be a staple in the Australian diet, specially when most people were of British descent. There are much less jam varieties avaiable now, probably because

It depends.....I like grape JELLY and strawberry JAM.
Enjoy grape jelly, strawberry jam, occasionally blackberry jam & apple jelly.
I grew up eating tomato preserves at my grandmother's house.
Strawberry jam is number one favorite. Also fond of red plum jam, orange marmalade and apple butter. Jelly doesn't spread so I only use that for making sauces.
When I was a child someone in our family made Damson

My mom and dad made plum preserves back during their canning days.
I don't mind a little strawberry preserve cause I like biting on the seeds....lol...if it is good that is.....
And I too liked the apple jelly years ago.....but my grandma asked me one time when I was staying with her if I liked apple jelly and I told her I really would like it if it was red and cinnamony......so she made some for me using red hots ...oh my that was sooo good...
Seems to me that most of the ones you can buy now don't have much flavor.....they are sweet but not very fruity.....
As for apples I think it has a lot to do with the apple too..... I don't think those mushy sweet apples make into anything very good.....but there are some red crisp ones that are really good....usually they are right from the tree around here......
When the kids were little I used to make apple butter..... just cooked the apples down if they were sweet apples I just put cinnamon in them no sugar it was really good... I used to put it in small tupperware and freeze it.......man, I can remember making a lot of that stuff....the kids would put it on ice cream and if I didn't watch they would eat it out of the dish....lol
Thank you all for the delicious answers, problem is, now I'm hungry! It's 11am, been waiting for the nurse, now she's been, I'll have some breakfast -
I have never heard of crystallized figs, but they sound yummy!
I like most all jelly and jams, but rarely eat them;
however my favorites are Apple Butter in the Fall/winter and Orange Marmalade the rest of the time. Yummy!
DH like Red Plum Jelly.
When I was a kid my Mom made Pear Preserves. They were like candy and sometimes I would eat them out of the jar. :-)
