Best & worst gift ever?

Inspired by this thread on the Dealing with In-Laws board...

What is the best gift you've ever received (for any occasion, given by anyone)?

And the worst?

There have been too many "best" gifts to isolate just one.

The worst is easy.

My best gift was a horse barn for my model horses.

I remember when my Dad decided that we were too old for presents. In his family as a right of passage when you turned into a teen, you received money not a gift. So one year he gave me $100 and I used it to help to pay for a leather coat that I wanted.

The worst was no present and then the person saying that someone must have broken into my hotel room and taken the money she put in the envelope. Common sense should have told her that the thief would have taken my kids' money too.

Best gift - no occasion (well, sort of Christmassy), friends knew I was in a tough spot so they surprised me with some money to purchase gifts for my kids.

Worst - either the used wallet from ex-Grandmother in law or the old lady doilies that ex-DH gave me for Christmas... I think that was even in the same year!

My mother is known for her rather unusual gift giving but I have to hand it to her, she gave me one of the best gifts I have ever received. Hubby and I were struggling with 3 children and one on the way and we had done without a lot to get a few gifts for the kids. We got up Christmas morning and gathered up the kids and went to my mothers and under her tree was an enormous box piled high and covered with newspaper. When my turn came to open up a gift my mother dragged that box over to me and I almost cried when I opened it. In it was all sorts of odd "gifts" such as dish soap, toilet bowl cleaner, hand lotion, rubber gloves, coffee, matches, soups, tuna, and much more. I felt as though she had just handed me a million dollars. Apparently she'd snooped when she'd been at my house a week earlier and realized we needed some help. It was truly the most wonderful gift I had ever gotten.
