If you could do over one particular event in your life, what would it be? How much of a difference would it make in your life today?

Yes. I'd have dated my ex for only a few weeks instead of a few years. Not that there weren't good times during those years and the time with him helped shape me into the person I am now.

One of his parting gifts was to make me lose my self-confidence in a very big way, and this is something I struggled with for a very long time.

I'd like to say I wouldn't have married my ex, but I won't because I wouldn't trade the two children that came from that marriage for anything in the world!

I would have stood up for myself more in junior high school.

I never thought I would say this but I just wished my dad would have encourage me much more....with a disability is hard enough but to think that you are less of a person can take a toll on you....he was overbearing, overprotective and never thought I would amount to much of anything cuz whatever I wanted to do, he always say you can do better than that....all I wanted to do was be a hairdresser and be a mom....never thought I could much else ....never could do anything without him saying something to "dash my thinking".....now with my kids I am always encouraging them to do what they want and I find sometimes I "hold" them back and I try to not do that....when I moved to the city, it was pure joy/hell/wonders.....all the good and bad stuff....I was soooo naive in so many ways...now I am in a place in my life that I wish I did some things differently but now cannot ....mainly cuz of lack of finances for starters but sometimes when i start talking I lose my way with what I want to say and sometimes wondered if I am making sense to anybody else....kwim.... all I wanted to do was move to a big city and work at a job for awhile and then become a sahm to my kids....now I am stuck in a small town that is no fun, no friends, and no family nearby and also no money....but that part is another post... did not mean to babble on.... and that would be my do over... Awww Susan, I am kinda glad you posted this. I have a daughter who has what may be considered a disability and very early on one of her Doctors told us to never treat her any different than any other child. He told us to throw her out with other kids and let her learn to cope. It was a very hard thing for us to do at first but we did and she has indeed learned to cope. We never mention her issues no matter how hard she has to struggle. While I know it doesn't help you, your story does help me to know we are doing the right thing.

and I applaud you for doing that, even tho we want to "help" our kids by sticking up for them, in the long run it is best for them to learn by doing it themselves....my disability is hearing impairment, I went to a small school and I was one of those kids that had those ear mold that had a cord that went to a box on my shirt....lordy I hated those things at times...I used to be so conscious and verrrry shy....

I'd have fired our financial advisor BEFORE the market crash of 2008. We'd have twice as much money now if we had...

I'm so sorry that your dad didn't give you a push when you needed it.
