Check out this article and then go check your privacy settings.

Something some friends and I were discussing the other day is that it's not just your settings that matter.

I don't post ANYTHING on Facebook. I refuse to sign up for Facebook on principle... too much invasion of my privacy!

Something that always amazes me is that people post where they are all the time.

I stopped posting pics on FB a few years ago when I realised my website's photo gallery software was sitting there doing nothing. And shortly after I started using it, I discovered I loved it. :)

Now I'm glad I don't have to worry about who's doing what with my photos. I've even removed tags that my own sister added from her own Christmas photos. (Who wants a shot of their back tagged? Hello! Something more flattering, at least. LOL)

I've deactivated my FB account twice in the past year, but some iVillagers post their family photos on FB because they don't use other photo sites and they want their cousins or aunts or whoever to view them.

I also see the potential for board promotion if I set up a page with my board's name and then post regular links back to the board.

I've been going through my timeline (the new version of the wall) and deleting anything not book-related because I really don't think it's anyone's business what I posted since I joined in 2007. Idle chitchat shouldn't be prey to stalkerish behaviour and I feel like Facebook encourages that kind of activity! ;)

Exactly! And their cell phone numbers, too. What's up with that? I won't give Facebook my number and I'm certainly not broadcasting it to my entire friends list and potentially their lists as well.

Yes, the privacy settings being so slippery on Facebook was my major gripe.

For Google+, you should be able to get to your privacy settings from the right top corner. (This stays the same whether you go with the Circles page or Games or your stream.) There's an arrow to the right of your profile pic and it brings down a menu. Click Privacy and you should find everything on the next page. HTH!

I hope there's a happier ending with Google than Orwell's tragic book. I was so mad about that ending I threw the book!

I tend to use Google for my search engine, Chrome as my browser and Reader for RSS feeds. I started out blogging with Blogger as well. Oh, and I have videos on YouTube (though not associated with my G+ account). I think I'm a Google addict! ;) I don't store my photos with them, though - I feel much more secure with my own website for photos (and my blog, since 2005).

Sounds like photos my mother-in-law takes of everybody.
