Gang sexual assaults and social media sharing of it

Has anyone noticed how many gang sexual assaults of teenage girls which then gets shared by who knows how many other kids there seems to be in the news lately? Just last week two teenage girls committed suicide over this kind of thing. Is this happening more or just being reported by the media more? I don't know what is more disturbing, the assaults themselves or the fact so many other kids seem to be sharing these assaults via social networking and not reporting them as crimes to an adult. I don't understand how not one parent or adult can know what was being spread around an entire highschool for days on end. And I am completely baffled over the fact that so many boys think it perfectly okay to sexually abuse and molest an unconscious person. And where are these girls' friends when this is happening??? I am horrified!

Yes! I have noticed and also find this new "trend" very disturbing. We aren't alone, however, others have noticed it too: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_162-57579478/calif-teens-suicide-is-the-latest-in-a-disturbing-trend/

I personally feel as though we are seeing the results of the last several decades of the influence of sports on our youth. Rather than empathy, manners, and common decency, our children are being bombarded with ludicrous sports figures making ridiculous salaries and paraded around as heroes and examples of greatness. Children have learned to do whatever it takes to be get the most attention regardless of the consequences to other people.

I think shows like Pretty Little Liars and Glee and other teen shows that glorify popularity, revenge, and humiliation of your "enemy" is contributing to this kind of thing.

In my city, a 14 year old middle school student killed herself last week and yesterday another girl at the same school shot herself (no word on whether she is alive or not) and everyone is now wondering if they were somehow involved in something like this. It is beyond tragic.
