After watching all the news on this --- and it even made NPR! --- it occurred to me something that might make a slight difference.
I don't know how acclimated to US culture M.I.>A is but I do know that in Britian, it isn't hte middle finger that offends, it's two fingers --- like the V for victory but with the hand turned so that teh back of the hand faces the person being offended... Maybe she didn't know? Becasue, for sure, most American's wouldn't get the two-finger salute!
But her language was surely meant to offend...

I didn't notice the gesture but I was across the room from the tv so I couldn't see much detail of any of the show. Later when I watched the 11pm news they talked about it and even showed it highlighted, so I did see it in the end lol.
I wasn't very impressed with the halftime show. Madonna looks great but the overall effect of the show just wasn't very exciting to me, nor to the friends that I was with.
I didn't see it --- I try to avoid all "Extravaganza" halftime shows, be they in bowl games or championship games --- they always seem to be in such bad taste all around (who designs those things anyway?) and I miss the good old days with marching bands doing formations, etc....
And being such an old fogey, I never heard of M.I.A.
I saw that!
I didn't see the flip off but overall, I was soooooo disappointed with Madonna's show!
