A few weeks ago I read the obituary of Carla Cohen, who founded the much-loved Politics and Prose bookstore in Washington DC.

The bookstore would have never been if she hadn't lost her job and had to rethink what she was going to do. She was unemployed for three years, but she had a plan. Politics and Prose was not only a bookstore, but she and her business partner made it into a literary salon.

Many people have successfully emerged from difficult times to do new things that are more compatible and in synergy with who they are at that point of change and re-emergence. It takes a huge leap of faith in themselves and a lot of awareness, too.

Have you ever found yourself in this situation or do you know anyone who has done this? Have you ever wondered whether you would or could do such a thing?

Carol, it makes one wonder whether you would have enjoyed teaching in college and after or if teaching was something you enjoyed because of the person you had become.
