HI Everyone,

It's been a while since we have heard from you. What is new in your life?

Many of you know I had two new grandchildren this summer so this grandma has been very busy helping out with babies. Also, I  recently completed my first 5K and 10K! The next big thing that I am working toward on my bucket list is a half-marathon. ;-)

I'd love to hear what is happening in your world.

"Lost" my gallbladder in August...not planned...total surprise.  Lots of biking....for me it's biking and not running.

Well I have had a tough summer.  In May I developed a cough that just wouldn't go away.  I had had a substandard doctor for several years and I knew this, but I finally decided he had to go.  So I switched to a bright young female deaf doctor thinking that she could relate to me better than what I had.  Since I am nearly totally deaf, this has proven to be a good choice.  I endured the summer with this cough and hoarseness that just would not go away.  So thinking that it would be hard to teach classes this fall with being unable to talk as well as unable to hear, I asked my new doctor about it.  A lifetime of GERD that was not medicated correctly has taken it's tole on my vocal cords and developed into two complications of this condition.  The first is Barrett's esophagus which is a pre-cancerous condition and has to be watched from now on.  The second is larnygotracheal reflux which can be managed with diet.  So now I have a long list of things I can't eat and when I do eat any of them, even by mistake, I immediately cannot speak.  It is just crazy.  Fortunately it does not hurt too much, but to be mute for 30 to 60 minutes can be very inconvenient.

So I am learning a lot about how to manage these new conditions.

What's new?! 1. I am training my dog, with a possible goal of turning him into a therapy dog. 2. I started a one block wonder quilt that I have completely pieced together. Now, I have to sew the 3 layers together, and I will be done. Oh! And I bought a new sewing machine that I love! 3. A trip to Seattle and the surrounding area was fabulous! 4. Helped dd move into her first apartment for her se one year of school. 5. Found a new dance studio where I will be investigating ballroom dance lessons this weekend! 6. As always, I continue with yoga, Linedancing, taking care of my mom, and work. :D

Omgosh Calley, how horrible. It does sound like you recovering well if you are back to biking. :-)

Fresh, your dog training is so interesting!

My daughter has an old sewing machine and she is teaching herself to sew. I really don't have any clue about sewing. We are thinking about getting her a new machine for Christmas but have no idea where to start. Any tips?

Aww Harriette, I am so sorry to hear about your health issues. Can the damage to your vocal chords be corrected?

I'm very curious as to what kind of foods you can no longer eat.
