A word about the profiles

We've now got two profiles available to us, the iVillage profile and the Lithium profile (Lithium being the name of the new message board platform.)

The iVillage profile is pretty much like the old profile that we had, with information such as book recently read, something that you always have in your purse, etc. You can find your iVillage profile by clicking on your name at the very top of the page where the picture enthusiastic lady is. You can read someone else's profile by clicking on "see my iVillage profile" under their name on a topic.

The Lithium profile tracks your board activities and has some information about you. You can find your Lithium profile by clicking on your name or on your avatar picture in a topic (you can also read someone's Lithium profile by clicking on their name or their avatar.) I suggest that you right click when you do this, as the current set-up doesn't open up a new tab, window or pop-up to get you to the Lithium profile. If you click on mine, you'll see which boards I have posted on. If you click on yours, you'll see some additional information about you that no one else can see (e.g. I can't see your statistics but I can see mine.) You can also find drafts of posts that you've written (it autosaves within 30 seconds), your list of friends. When you friend a person it will mean that that person will be able to see whether you are online or not. Please note that ignoring a person no longer hides that person's posts, but only disables that person from Private Messaging you.

If you have security concerns, especially if you are in an abusive relationship of some kind, are or have been stalked, are or have been bullied,

Yes, we have two profile.

Try right clicking my "see my iVillage profile" - you'll see the about me things, much like the old profiles that we had.

Now try right clicking my name or my avatar - it'll open a page which is called the Lithium profile, which shows you my recent posts and other information.

Now, right click your own name or avatar - it'll open your Lithium profile, which will show some more personal information (real name, IP address and other stats) that only can see. People other than you can only see your recent posts. People who are on your friends list can see when you are online.

I hope this helps! Great to see you here :-)

Wow thanks so much Poppy,
Now let me ask you this ..
Do you use bookmarks to find replies or the emails ?
With the bookmarks you go & check them right ?
Just wondering which you think is easier :)

This might confuse you a bit... I don't/haven't used the iV bookmarks (and I seem to be the only person that didn't use the Favorites feature in the old boards.

I used Firefox as my browser, and I've set up a bookmark on FF with all the boards I CL and play in. So when I go online to do iV stuff, I click on that bookmark and it automatically opens all those boards with one click. Because yesterday I just set the "Mark all posts in this Community as Read" anything new from now onwards that I haven't read should be marked as new.

I might also use my Lithium profile to keep track of the topics I've posted in, especially the ones that aren't in my usual boards.

That's the easiest for me that I've found. What about you?

Yep you confused me but easy to do, LOL
Ok so here on your board ..
You don't use the bookmark that is under edit preferences then ?
Or that is a choice under options after posting ?
Trying to find the easiest way to find posts ...
Not sure I have yet :)

I should probably check it out and put in my bookmarks there for when I am not at my computer, so that I can find the boards easily!

But on a normal day, on my own laptop, I use the FF bookmarks. On that particular bookmark I have boards and newspaper sites as well as a couple of blogs that I follow, gMail, and iGoogle. All in all there are 23 sites.

So basically I roll out of bed, turn on the laptop, do stuff, open Firefox, open the bookmark and click on open all tabs. Then I do something else (like yawn and stretch), and by the time I come back all 23 sites have loaded. I read my mail, I glance at the news, I look at the blogs and sites I follow through iGoogle, then I start looking at the boards one by one. I know exactly how the boards looked the last time I was on these, so I know exactly what's been happening when I look at them.

I think it'll be easier for you to set the whole iVillage counter to 0 (use mark all topics as read in this community), so that when you go to a board you know how many new posts there are. Have you also set your preferences to start reading from first unread post? That is also going to make our lives easier.

On your boards, especially on Time Out For Me, I'd also use the view more feature on each folder since there are so many people and a lot of conversations going on! Certainly more than 5 per folder :-)

Thanks for all your ideas & tips Poppy,
I do try to set newest to oldest when it takes
Hmm .. might have to try that read all so to speak.
Yes I like the view more where you can see what is new.

OK don't laugh but now I can't find my way back to adding friends ::blush::
Where is it again ?

Thanks for everything :)

Right-click a person's name or avatar so that their Lithium page opens up in a new tab/window. Scroll down, and under contact you'll see two orange buttons. The first will be to add that person as a friend, the second is to ignore the person. Just above the "add as a friend" button is the link to Private Message the person.
