Yes, my friend checked in - She was without power for over 7 days. Some people are still without power, and some of them are complaining. It's not the power company's fault - There is severe damage that has to be repaired first. And to make things worse, we just had a Nor' Easter - It brought very strong winds, and dumped over 12 inches of snow in some areas!!

While there are storm victims in CT, we are having food and clothing drives for the victims in NJ and NYC - Their damage was much more severe, and many are still homeless.

Glad to hear you are safe, I hope you have found the missing friend. I have seen the coverage on the internet. It is heartbreaking, and I can't wrap my head around the fact where NY/NJ going to house all those displace people. What can I do to help??

We lost power for 2½ days. We got a lot of wind, and the local beaches were severely damaged. The next town east had a near tragedy - A house caught fire, set the house next to it on fire, and the fire department couldn't get there due to high flood waters. They decided to turn back. The next day they went back and found that were live wires in the water along with floating propane tanks! They could have been electrocuted and/or blown up!

I barely tolerated spending all that time with my bickering parents. I slept a lot because there was nothing else to do. My father had the generator running on and off so the refrigerators/freezers would stay cold. He also connected a power strip (surge protector), so we could plug in a lamp and charge our phones. We all had our own portable radios with headphones. I ended up turning mine off because there wasn't much local news - I mean, there was some trivial stuff, but nothing else. If it weren't for the town's emergency management's automated phone calls, and texts, we wouldn't have known anything about what was going on or where to go (weather updates, shelter, food, showers, etc.).

All but 1 of my friends have checked in. I spent a big part of the day trying to find some info on where she may be, but got nowhere. One person told me I needed to contact missing persons - Missing persons told me I needed to contact the local shelters, but didn't have any idea where they were located. I have no idea where anything is in since I don't live in New Jersey. Frown

Not having problems with iVillage but I don't have cell service today. I've become so used to having a phone anytime I want that it's a pain in the butt not to have it.  Otherwise me and mine are fine. I hope everyone else is safe and sound.
