Are you up to date on current child safety info concerning things like car seat use and sleep positions? Many grandparents aren't according to this Health Day news article. "In this study, 49 grandparent caregivers completed a 15-question survey designed to assess their knowledge of child care safety guidelines. When asked about the best sleep position for a baby, 33 percent of the participants said on the stomach, 23 percent said on the side and about 44 percent said on the back. When sleeping, infants should be placed on their backs to prevent sudden infant death syndrome, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).Another question addressed correct car seat positioning, and 24.5 percent of the participants said that a 9-month-old, 22-pound child should be facing forward. The AAP recommends, however, that children remain in rear-facing car seats until age 2 years." MORE

I have been through this with the car seat. I had no idea car seats were so complicated these days. Like the other poster, I am actively trying to keep up with current information.

I try to stay up to date; even when my own were infants, the recommendations changed from child to child. When my oldest was a baby, they recommended on the stomach as the sleeping position but that was before they suspected a link to that and SIDS. As a grandparent, I try to prepare the same as I did when I was pregnant, reading up on all the latest info I can find, but it's hard to keep up sometimes!
