I've often wondered whether I would replace my current microwave if it died. I do use it to heat leftovers and cook frozen veggies. But little else. I could do those things on the stovetop.
But it came with the house, so.....I use it.
It is above my stove and has the hood vent, etc. I would have to put in a new hood exhaust thingy. The one on the micro isn't very good, anyway. So, maybe I wouldn't mind if mine died.
I do have a micrwave but I don't use it much except to reheat things. But I would replace it if it died on me because I count on it on days when we both work late and supper is leftovers! :0 I have heard you can make cake and such in them but I never tried it!!:)
I do not care for the idea of thawing/cooking things in the microwave, guess I am a sucker for the convection oven....I use mine for heating things on a dinner plate for the few times we have leftovers...popcorn, which is the best....We got our first microwave when my son was born in 1993, just replace it about 2 yrs ago....it takes awhile to figure out all the functions....
Visits to see grandma is always such an adventure as a kid! :) I remember earning to eat tomatoes with sugar on them! They sure didn't worry about weight so much back then!
Sorry to hear that your microwave died on you, Cheryl. Yes, I have one, but am not quite that dependent on it - mostly to heat water

We have an OLD one, about college dorm room size, that is a spare...

Susan, it is a sad fact that they don't make them like they used to.
I agree about things breaking easier and not lasting as long.
