I started walking again in April. I hadn't for a few years... It is not because I 'like' to walk. Do you walk? Do you 'like' to walk?

well my story is that back in Jan. I had some health issues so I started walking and wound up losing weight and have tried to keep it up since then.. I do enjoy walking but at times I find it so boring alone.. I have to on most days force myself to walk. I walk around the area because there arent many walking trails around and if I need to find one I have to drive to them which I find stupid to have to drive to walk.

Although I do like the way I feel after I walk and the benefits.. and the weight loss and all of that.

Doc wants to re run blood work to see if its better since I have been walking and losing weight. It is also fun to buy clothes in a smaller size but keeping this up is challenging.. Now that Winter is coming its going to be tough but I did walk in ice, snow rain  and heat so I shouldnt complain..(lol)

I don't like to walk- I LOVE to walk! If I don't get a my daily walk in then I just feel out of sorts. It is a total stress reliever and relaxation method for me.

How far do you usually walk?

I'm with you on that driving to someplace to walk... Can't do that with the cost of gas. We don't have sidewalks really either. I just walk on the roads. I don't know what I will do once it gets cooler and if we actually have a 'winter' this year.

I started walking to lose weight and because I had a not so good blood work in March.  I have lost 16 pounds since the end of April, so hoping that helps. And yes, it is fun to buy clothes that are smaller... lol

Do you have a pedometer? I used a pedomter for years but in April I bought a Fitbit. I love it more!!!

I have been getting in over 10.000 steps a day for the last 5 days. How long will I keep that up? I don't know.. Problem is on days I am home, most of that must be in walks.. What I have noticed is that I now walk 50 minutes or so and it doesn't 'wind' me.. when I started in April 30 minutes was pushing it.

Do you use a pedometer? Have you heard of a Fitbit? How far do you walk?

OH, I think I want a ipod touch for Christmas this year to download audio books from the library to listen to while I walk. :smileywink:

I am fortunate in that I live in an area with sidewalks.. In NY but in a suburb where there is still lots to do and things to see (lol)...I can even walk to the boardwalk at the beach but I hardly ever do.. I kinda sometimes get distracted and walk to the library and then go in and hang out.. I must have ADD because I cant focus too much on the walking but I digress.
I did start walking back in Jan. when it was cold and that is really not me. I hate the cold but I bundled up and did it anyway and yes because of a not so good blood test and my blood pressure was off the charts.. So I got meds which I hate taking but I do and I started on a healthier lifestyle..etc.etc.. I need to repeart blood work asap and see if it got any better. GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Well I started losing weight and then the dr. also gave me a water pill so more weight came off .. So since last Jan. a total of 30 lbs. on me is gone but that goes up and down.. and its challenging to keep off as I am a carb addict.. Anyway; congratulations on your weight loss.

I have a pedometer but when I was using it I couldnt get the hang of it and then I forget it and now I have lost it.. this is funny but I actually started following our mailman to see how far he walked. He said he walks 6 miles a day and i was trying to do 2 miles which is fine for me now. I like you started out slow and  couldnt make it too far but now I can do an hour with ease or 2 miles and I am fine.. Its nice to be able to breath and not  have that Shortness of Breath like I used to.

I want to look into a fitbit but I cant afford anything right now but I will certainly look.

Happy Trails.. I didnt walk yesterday but will walk today and see if there is a yoga class at the library.

OH; I actually have no excuses right now because I am not working at the present time so I am bad.

take care

Congratulations on your 30 pounds! That is great! I don't know how long I will be getting the 10,000 steps a day in. My 'heel' is so sore. If it follows my typical pattern, it will be sore for months...  I originally had and still do for that matter 5000 steps a day as my 'goal'. I knew it would be a challenge for me, but not 'too much'. I'm trying to remember how long it took and if just sitting with my foot up was involved...

Oh; I dont know what I would do if I had major ailments like pain in feet or whatever. I stupidly sometimes wear sandals to walk but they are very cushiony and are those new age earth walking sandals.. I feel your pain because sometimes I get some pain but doc says its the bone loss I have.. I love getting old (lol)......... I am 58 and sometimes feel 78 but when I walk I feel 38.. I have to thank you because after I read this thread I went out and took a walk for about an hour. Its pretty hot out but that doesnt bother me anymore. I have braved so many elements as my mom would say.. I have walked like I said in snow, rain, wind, heat and all of it but I kept going.. Its nothing like a health crisis to get me in motion.

well wrap up your foot or soak it or do something with it girl.. Y ou need to keep going (lol).. Oh; on another good note my neighbor walks with me sometimes and this morning she asked me to bike ride with her.. My bike is a big  mess and I need to have it repaired so i couldnt go.. I was happy though that she asked so maybe she can be my new excercise partner.. God knows I need on...

take care

I am glad you went for that walk! I walked again yesterday, but.....  Everyday, I wonder if I should as bad as it hurts... but I can't 'bear' to not make my 10,000 steps.. <sigh>

Keep in touch! We can compare notes!!! :smileywink:

Oh; well maybe you shouldnt push yourself so hard.. and its better to try and do something I guess.

I went out last night and now I am a bit tired.. Went to a concert but a friend of mine had free tickets so I went. (lol)

Anyway; I will try and walk later.. I so want to go to the healthfood store and get this new pizza they make.. One slice is like 4.00 but its made out of all natural ingredients and its so good. I so wish I could walk there and save on gas but its a bit too far.

hope you feel better.

I had gotten to walking 10,000 steps a day. I cut back to my original goal of 5,000 to 6,000 but foot keeps hurting.. Now, not even doing that. Trying to sit with it up...  I hate this.
