Evening wear?

Do you have an evening dress or formal gown or do you get something new any time you have some special occasion to wear a more fancy dress? I have several in my closet that I've only worn once but they never seem to be appropriate enough for the next occasion. Maybe I am pickier than most?

I have one black formal dress that I have worn to a few special occasions. I was recently thinking about getting another because Dilliard's had a really nice sale recently. I so rarely ever attend anything that would require a formal gown that I think what I have is fine.
I don't have a formal dress or any kind of dress. I don't own a pair of heels now either. My daughter was supposed to get married in 2012 but he dumped her... I had found my mother of the bride dress and even heels. Thankfully the dress wasn't ordered, though they kept part of my down payment for 'the paperwork'. and my shoes had come from Zappos so I could return them. If there ever is a wedding with another guy, I don't know if I will do a dress... Guess time will tell.
Needless to say, I don't have any need for formal dresses....
