I'm not really sure this is the best place to put this question. I am 34 and have been with my husband for almost 10 years. He did not marry me for my homemaking skills, however. I do not know when the last time I cooked was (that is not an exaggeration). About 80% of the food we eat is either take out or frozen.
Lately, though he has been tired and worn out easily. Diabetes runs in his family and I have a sneaking suspicion that next week when we go to the doctor he is going to tell us that fact may be catching up with him. We have also talked about starting a family lately and I have miscarried three times already. These facts have made me come to the conclusion thaat we should eat better.
So now I want to cook better for us. He at this point agrees that this is a good idea. I say at this point because I think he agrees in theory but I have a feeling when it comes down to it, he is not going to be harder to keep on board beacuse old habits die hard and because he is a red meat and potatoes kind of guy.
So I have a few questions. When I am looking at a recipe, how do I know it is healthy (I realize most are going to be better than what we are eating now)? How many sugars is considered low sugar? How many carbs are considered low carbs? How many calories are considered low calories? Are there any websites that can tell me how to change recipes to make them healthier? Are there good websites for beginning cooks?
