How important is exercise

Most people I know do not exercise and are in no better or worse health than I am. My husband and I have been jogging for about a year now and while we have definitely lost weight, there doesn't appear to be much difference between us and everyone else. So I was wondering if you exercise or not and what would you consider yourself as far as healthwise?

I guess it would depend on how you measure whether they have better or worse health than you.  Are you basing it on just what they look like, whether they take medication for any thing such as cholesterol, diabetes, etc.  Diet also affects people's health as well as exercise, so there are many different factors.  There are plenty of thin people that don't appear to have health issues, but are not in shape at all, can't climb a few flights of stairs without getting winded etc.  Here is a great article:

Gee that is a tricky question but I know how you feel.... It would depend what age you are what type of ailments you have if any.. There are studies though that show exercise is very good for us... I know that I let myself go and one half years ago being overweight and developed high blood pressure and being 59 years old it was def. from me neglecting myself.. So I started walking and eating better and changed alot up about my health and went on medication.... I lost 35 pounds and felt better and still do feel alot better when I walk and have added bike riding ..................Now for me I am not a very motivated person so it takes pulling out teeth to do this... What gets me going is self talk or at n ight when My sis comes home from work we walk the dog together.. Now its probably not fast enough walking but doing the best I can......................

I also belong to a hiking meet up group that meets in a park at times and we hike and chat so that helps me stay motivated..

I have read that runners dont necessarily fare better than walkers.. Please look into that and runnin builds up lactic acid in the blood so it might not be helping but since I am not a doctor or anything this is just something I have read....................

Believe me if I didnt have to exercise I wouldnt but the big elephant stares at me in the room and so I do the best I can.......

They say finding something you like and sticking to it is the key............So for now I enjoy walking and biking and hiking.. I do love zumba and all but havent found the nerve to do it yet............

Good Luck and keep on exercising!!!!!  LOL
