Over 55 Housing

Some questions and feed back if possible if anyone is around.. I notice this board is very quiet ..

Anyway; Since I am now 59 years old I would like to move into one of those over 55 housing units.. I did find one that is very nice.. The rents are like l,000 a month which does not include electric or cable.Water and heat is included along with laundry rooms and club house..and property manager.. Where I live here in NY in suburbs that is a good deal.. My income though is limited so I would be drawing alot from my savings which I do have .. Its my retirement money but since I am not happy anymore living with family this seems like a good alternative.. but yes it makes me a bit concerned with limited income and no job for now..

Only drawback is that there is a one year lease ..

Most other apts. are landlord type places and basements with no laundry rooms and no privacy...

So I cant seem to make up my mind.. Drain the savings and hope for the best or keep looking for another type of apt..

Any thoughts??

Well that is a tough situation. What about taking the nice apartment and then get a part time job to help out a little; is that a possibility for you? If not, I'm not sure I'd put myself into a situation where I would have to dig into savings. What happens when your savings runs out? KWIM?

yep  I have thought about all of what you said.. Well I would love to get a part time job and have been applying and trying for about a year and nothing so far so its either hope to get a job or draining the savings for now.

I can still keep looking for a less expensive place but tired of that also.. they are either basements or dirty or just plain too expensive for what landlords ask for..at some point it gets tiring just looking and looking and trying and trying and coming up empty.. Not complaining just saying how it is..

oh; and I went to the place today and the rents were raised a bit and its two months security to get in and not just one. That kind of turned me off.

thankYou for the in put..

thank You for the input..

Have you thought any more about this? Looked any more? I would not think pulling on savings so 'young' just to pay rent would be a good idea. Are there any places in your area based on income?
