Vatican Dysfunction

I was browsing the news this morning and have been scratching my head over the headlines of the Cardinals trying to decide if the Vatican is involved in corruption. I've been raised in the Catholic Church all my life and my family is all Catholic. We aren't the most dedicated people but even we noticed quite a long time ago there was something really not right about the upper "managment". I can't understand why they are just now noticing! Is it that they are now being forced to admit there is a problem or are they truly just noticing?

I too have been Catholic all my life and can't understand why the Vatican didn't get more involved in the molestation scandals and do more PR work. I don't think this was a case of head-in-the-sand but more that they figured ignore it and it will go away.

I am personally very glad to know that the Cardinals are united in gettting to the bottom of things and finding a solution.

I was raised Catholic but switched to Protestant when I got married. My parents and siblings are still part of the Catholic Church. My mother has never noticed anything out of the ordinary  happening in the church so I do understand that maybe church management misinterpretted the not so great media reports and scandals as persecution.

I am not Catholic, and never have been. I think there were a few at the top, who may really have thought that talk to them personally, move them, and as "men of God" they will straighten up. And the clergy, no matter what religion or denomination, were once held on a pedestal as being above human weaknesses. But I think as we have become a closer connected society, cable news, internet, etc, we have become more aware, more enlightened, and more likely to say, wth!!! IMHO, that can be both bad and good. We live in a different world than we once did. Those in power must understand that and change with the times. It will be interesting to watch as the search for a new pope progresses. And to see what if any changes a new pope brings.
