Hey Coldfingers,

Theme weddings have become very popular in the past decade or so. It's partly a by-product of our very "me" focused cultured and the wedding industry, IMO.

My own wedding, circa 1985, had a "country girl theme" in my BMs wore flouncy small print dresses, straw hats and carried a basket of dried flowers. My wedding cake was frosted like a weaved basket. I had potted mums for aisle decor and my bouquet was carnations and baby's breath. I made my gown out of ivory-colored eyelet aka Jessica McClintock 1985. We served ham sandwiches, potato salad, and fruit punch at the reception. I look at my wedding photos 25 years later and realize it was "me" in spades because I am and always have been a down-to-earth, practical person, and my wedding reflected every bit of that.

My sister, who married over 10 years after me, had a very sophisticated urban wedding featuring a contemporary version of our mother's bouquet,

Hi Cheryl

Nope never been to a "theme" wedding. However you have to remember as mother of the bride this will be her wedding and what she wants is what is important to her. The wedding is two years away so you can hope she will change her mind.

I haven't actually attended a theme wedding so I can't comment out of personal experience. I do hope my own daughter chooses something more traditional but you just never know what may be popular when the time comes. I am trying to keep an open mind because my oldest got married and the wedding wasn't really important in my mind. His "bride" was a serious problem! The marriage didn't last a year. ;)

I think depending on the theme it could turn out to be fun for you and your daughter.
